Major 'NCIS' update: show renewed for season 16
Fans are already drooling just thinking about the new season of this long-lasting television favorite.
According to Pop Culture, CBS announced on Friday, April 6, 2018, that the network has renewed NCIS for a 16th season.
The same outlet also revealed that Mark Harmon, who plays Gibbs on the show, signed on to star and executive produce it.
Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment, explained in a statement that it was an easy decision, as 'viewers everywhere love NCIS.'
'This show speaks to viewers of all ages, in all parts of the country and around the world. NCIS‘ amazing characters and terrific storytelling result in some of TV’s most passionate fans,' she added.
She then explained that it wouldn't be possible without the production team and the talented cast led by Mark Harmon, who she also praised.
'We’re thrilled he is returning as the centerpiece of the show, and we could not be more excited for NCIS 16th season,' she stated.
The crime show was averaging 13.3 million total viewers and a 1.4 demo rating during its 15th season, ranking number one among CBS dramas.
However, not everything is pretty, as co-star Pauley Perrette is leaving the series after 15 years playing the forensic specialist Abby Sciuto.
The same outlet also explained that her final appearance will be occurring in season 15's penultimate episode, which will be aired on Tuesday, May 8, 2018.
Fans were definitely not happy about the loss of Abby, with some of them wondering why she wasn't sticking around until the show's finale episode on May 22, 2018.
