As reported in an article published by The Hollywood Gossip, Dancing with the Stars has announced the full cast for their 26th season, a shortened season where 10 athletes will compete for the Mirrorball Trophy.

Fans of the show have expressed rage over the casting of one controversial athlete, Tonya Harding, whose husband confessed in '94 of assaulting Harding's rival at that point in time, Nancy Kerrigan.

The moment was one of the most disgraceful moments in the sport of figure skating and a blemish on the spirit of sports altogether.

Harding had confessed to knowing that her ex-husband and bodyguard had discussed assaulting Kerrigan but did not believe that he would go ahead with the plan.

But people still believe that Harding had something to do with the planning devised to break Kerrigan's kneecap before the Winter Olympics.

Harding even attended the Golden Globe Awards in January since a film based on her story, I, Tanya, was nominated for Best Picture. In the movie, actress Margot Robbie played Harding's character.

Last year, Kerrigan was cast on the show as a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. Fans believed that the casting of Harding just one year later is a desperate attempt for ratings.

As reported by Entertainment Daily, Dancing with the Stars pro, Sasha Farber, expressed his excitement and defended the show's decision to cast the controversial figure through social media.

People have the ability to find faith and shouldn’t have to live in the unbelievably devastating shadow of a bad past, wrong decision or bad influences for the rest of their life.

After the assault on Kerrigan was investigated, Harding received a probation of three years and was served community service for 500 hours. She also had to pay a fine of $160,000.

Harding was handed a life ban from all sanctioned events by the U.S. Figure Skating Figure Skating Association for her involvement in the scandal.
