'Strictly Come Dancing' Star and Fan-Favourite Axed from Show After 13 Years as Pro Dancer
A Venezuelan-born pro dancer has been axed from "Strictly Come Dancing" after 13 years, leaving fans devastated and insiders speaking out about the show's brutal treatment of its stars.
The BBC's glittering Saturday night institution has just made a decision that has left fans furious and insiders shaken — and for one beloved professional dancer, the music on the famed "Strictly" floor has stopped for good.

Karen Hauer, the Venezuelan-born salsa queen who became one of the most recognisable faces on "Strictly Come Dancing", has been axed from the show after an extraordinary 13 years as a professional dancer.
The news broke on Tuesday, 10 March, sending shockwaves through the "Strictly" fanbase and reigniting fierce debate about how the BBC treats the talent at the very heart of its most beloved programme.

A 'Strictly' Institution Gone
Hauer first joined "Strictly" in 2012 and quickly became a fan-favourite, celebrated not only for her technical brilliance and fiery Latin flair but for her warmth, humour, and ability to transform even the most reluctant celebrity into a confident performer.
Over more than a decade, she danced with a string of high-profile partners, earning a reputation as one of the hardest-working pros on the floor.

Her tenure spanned 13 series, countless iconic routines, and one of the most loyal fanbases in the show's history. For many viewers, Hauer was "Strictly" — a constant, dazzling presence in a show that has otherwise seen significant change over the years.
Now that era is over.

One insider confirmed that Hauer is "the latest professional dancer to be told her contract will not be renewed this year", adding:
"It's very much a case of out with the old and in with the new. As the longest-serving female dancer, Karen found out last week that her time on Strictly is over."

The news hit hard. A second source revealed that, "Karen was obviously very upset after being told the news, but she is trying to remain positive about the future."
The insider noted that Hauer, who also works as a choreographer and has a presence in the fitness industry, is expected to channel her energy into those pursuits going forward. The same source added, "It's an awful fate for the professional dancers who have dedicated their careers to the show."

Fans React with Outrage
Reaction on social media was swift and emotional. Fans of Hauer flooded platforms with messages of disbelief and support, and the strength of feeling was unmistakable.
"Have they not realised that we watch this programme for the pros as much as the celebrities so they will lose us if they axe any more [sic]," wrote one viewer, capturing a sentiment echoed widely online.

Others were equally blunt about the specific loss of Hauer. "Karen is one of the best professional dancers & we love watching her dancing sadly you pick the wrong person as far as the public concern," lamented one fan.
Another kept it simple but heartfelt, saying,"She's one of best on that show and brilliant dancer." A third also added, "So unfair Karen is a lovely dancer she is one of my favourites."

For many, the concern stretched beyond Hauer alone, with fans warning the BBC that a wave of changes risks alienating the loyal audience the show depends on.
"Make too many changes at 1 time, it will loose viewers [sic]," cautioned one, while another delivered perhaps the starkest verdict of all, "The show will go under now."

The Wider Cull
As previously mentioned, Hauer is, unfortunatley, not the only casualty. She is among several professional dancers let go from the show ahead of the 2026 series, in what insiders have described as a significant behind-the-scenes shakeup.
Ukrainian dancer Nadiya Bychkova has also reportedly been axed, as have fan-favourites Gorka Márquez, Luba Mushtuk, and Michelle Tsiakkas — a cluster of departures that has left the "Strictly" professional roster looking dramatically different from just one series ago.
The BBC has yet to make a full, formal announcement about the changes to the professional line-up, but the news has been confirmed through multiple sources close to the production.

'No Warning' — Insiders Speak Out
Behind the scenes, sources close to the professional dancers have painted a troubling picture of how the departures were handled. The concern is not only that beloved pros have been let go, but how they were let go.
For many of the professionals, the end comes swiftly without warning — and in a phone call that lasts as little as 15 minutes. "The dancers are often told their fate in a 15-minute phone call, even when they've been on the show years," one source revealed.

"Many of them feel like the BBC has pulled the rug from under them, with no warning," the insider added.
The sense of abandonment, it seems, does not end with the initial news. Once dropped, the professionals are said to receive little in the way of ongoing support from the corporation that built its Saturday nights around them.
"It's brutal. Once they're axed, there is very little in the way of duty of care and they are left to lick their wounds alone," the source added.

What Comes Next
Hauer has not yet made a public statement about her departure, though she is expected to address fans in due course.
Given the scale of support she has received, it is difficult to imagine her television career ending here . She remains a hugely marketable and talented figure who will undoubtedly have no shortage of opportunities.
But for now, as the BBC prepares to unveil a reshaped "Strictly" for 2026, the question fans cannot stop asking is a simple one: how do you replace someone like Karen Hauer?
The honest answer, many would say, is that you simply cannot.
