The comedian and "Strictly Come Dancing" star, 41, revealed on Tuesday (17 March) that she was left horrified after discovering a man attempting to photograph her through her second-floor bedroom window, sharing the unsettling ordeal with her followers on Instagram Stories.

Jayde described being in her bedroom with the curtains open — feeling completely at ease, given that her room sits on the second floor where she believed no one could see in.

That sense of security was shattered in an instant. "All of a sudden I see a stick with a silver digital camera on the end," she wrote, recounting the chilling moment she noticed the makeshift surveillance device being held up outside her window.

The "Strictly" star wasted no time. She opened the window and confronted the person responsible — an elderly man standing below, holding the stick aloft toward her bedroom. What followed left Jayde just as shaken as the discovery itself.

Rather than apologising or offering any explanation, the man was reportedly unbothered — and even turned the situation around on her. "When I asked what he was doing he acted like I was in the wrong? Annoyed that I had even questioned it and told me to call the police if I wanted to," Jayde wrote.

She posed the question that many of her followers were no doubt already asking. "This isn't normal, right? Or did I miss something?"

The answer, unsurprisingly, was a resounding no from fans who flooded her with support. During a follow-up Q&A on Instagram, Jayde revealed she believes the man may be connected to her next-door neighbours. "He hasn't been back, I think he's to do with next door but they need to like, tell me," she said.

Jayde is no stranger to unwanted attention. The Bristol-born comedian appeared on "Strictly Come Dancing" in 2022, where she was partnered with professional dancer Karen Hauer in a celebrated same-sex pairing — a first for the show. The duo made it to week five before being eliminated from the competition.

During her time on the show, Jayde spoke openly about the online abuse she received, particularly comments targeting her weight. Rather than ignore it, she chose to face it head-on.

Speaking on BBC Radio 4's "Woman's Hour", she explained her approach, "I could do one of two things, I could ignore it, or I could tackle it. I found it funny, I could show people who follow me some resilience."

She added that the trolling was something she had fully anticipated. "I knew it was going to happen to me because every time I'm on TV someone comments on my weight, I just knew it was going to happen."

One particularly cruel comparison, she recalled, was a post reading "this is Jayde Adams rocking up to Strictly, with a picture of the Michelin Man" — which Jayde said she simply laughed off.

"I don't want people to say stuff like that but these people want to have a reaction. The most useful thing to do is to not get at them, it's to show resilience because it's never going to stop."

Her reasons for taking part in "Strictly" ran far deeper than entertainment, however. Jayde had dreamed of appearing on the show for years — driven by a deeply personal motivation that she kept close to her heart throughout the competition.

From the age of five to 17, Jayde competed in freestyle disco dancing competitions alongside her older sister, Jenna. The two were inseparable on the dancefloor, even if Jayde felt she held her sister back. "My sister really fitted that mould. I didn't," she admitted. "And I'll be honest with you, I think I held her back a bit."

In 2005, Jenna suffered a seizure and was diagnosed with a brain tumour. She died six years later, at just 28 years old. Jayde had not danced with anyone else since — until "Strictly" came along.

"I think the most bittersweet thing about it is that she's not going to see it," Jayde said ahead of her debut on the show, pausing as she became emotional.

Jenna, who studied contemporary dance at university and danced with troupes in Bristol, would have understood the significance of the moment better than almost anyone. "Dancing was her life. It's all she ever did. And I think she would have really understood this."

Jayde entered the competition determined not just to honour her sister's memory, but to make a statement about how women are seen — and judged — on television.

She acknowledged that men online would inevitably have something to say about her body, but said she hoped her appearance on the show — and the outfits she chose to wear — would demonstrate to women like her across the UK what a truly confident and accomplished woman looks like.

Jayde set her sights firmly on the glitterball trophy. "That's what I want to do, thus hopefully ending every single conversation that there has to be about a woman's image," she declared.

Whether facing down internet trolls, confronting a man holding a camera on a stick outside her window, or stepping onto the "Strictly" dancefloor in memory of her sister, one thing is clear: Jayde is not easily rattled — and she is not going anywhere.
