'This Morning' Host Sian Welby Had a Long Night in A&E After Her Baby Suffered 'Scary' Convulsions
The beloved TV presenter's night took a terrifying turn when her young daughter's condition suddenly deteriorated — and what followed left fans across the country holding their breath.
"This Morning" and Capital Breakfast host Siân Welby shared a worrying update with her Instagram followers on Tuesday evening, 10 March, revealing that she had spent a long and anxious night at A&E with her baby daughter, Ruby, after the little one fell seriously ill.

A Frightening Night
"For those asking after little Rubes. We had a long night in A&E as she had a very high temperature and was having something called febrile convulsions," the 39-year-old presenter wrote in an Instagram Stories post, clearly shaken by the ordeal.
Siân went on to describe the distressing episode in more detail, explaining the convulsions were "almost like extreme shivering with really jerky movements".

For any parent, witnessing such symptoms in their child would be alarming enough — but Siân revealed this was not the first time Ruby had experienced them.
"It's quite scary and she's had them before, so we were told to go straight to A&E to have her checked over," she wrote.

The post was accompanied by a photo of baby Ruby lying in what appeared to be a hospital bed, her tiny frame resting against a soft toy — a cuddly duck — and a pink stuffed animal beside her.
The image was tender and quite heartbreaking: Ruby, her face obscured by a yellow heart emoji for privacy, was pictured shirtless on the hospital sheets, her hands raised as though mid-gesture, looking remarkably calm given the circumstances.

Siân was keen to reassure her followers, however, and ended her message on a note of relief and gratitude.
"We're back home now and she's doing really well," she wrote, before thanking fans for their kind messages and paying tribute to the medical staff at St. George's Hospital, who had gone above and beyond — even gifting Ruby a teddy bear for being brave.
"We Sre so lucky to have the NHS [sic]," she added with a white heart emoji.
Fans Rally Around Siân
The update quickly drew an outpouring of support from fans who had been following Siân's journey as a new mother.
"Sian is the most generous person and I wish she could pair with Ben and Craig to do This Morning with her," one supporter said. "I hope her baby gets better soon."
Another fan offered a more personal message of hope, writing, "Hopefully she will be alright and pull through Ruby xx."
What Are Febrile Convulsions?
For those unfamiliar with the condition, febrile convulsions — also known as febrile seizures — primarily affect children between six months and six years old. They are commonly triggered by a high fever caused by colds and minor infections.
Typical symptoms include stiffness, jerking limbs, loss of consciousness, vomiting and, in some cases, urinating. Despite how frightening the episodes can appear, the condition is widely understood by medical professionals to be harmless in the vast majority of cases, and most children recover quickly and completely.
Ruby's Story So Far
Ruby is Siân's first child with her fiancé, radio producer Jake Beckett, to whom she got engaged in August 2023. The couple welcomed their daughter in June 2024, and just two months later, the tiny new arrival made her television debut, joining her proud mum on "This Morning".
Co-host Craig Doyle celebrated the occasion warmly, declaring Ruby the "newest, tiniest, cutest member of the 'This Morning family'."
"It's so sweet to have her with me today, because I was quite nervous about leaving her," Siân told Craig at the time — a sentiment that will resonate with parents everywhere, and one that has felt especially poignant for Siân.
In a December 2025 interview with Hello!, when Ruby was 17 months old, Siân was candid about the challenges of juggling a high-profile career with new motherhood.

"I've got the guilt that I would love to stay at home, but I've also got the career that I can't just abandon after 15 years of slogging away," she admitted. It is a tension she knows well.
"I've always loved kids but in this crazy job you always think, 'How on Earth would I do it?'" she reflected. "Finding the work-life balance is always going to be hard. Some days I'm nailing it, some days I'm not."
Yet despite the demands, Siân is clear-eyed about how fortunate she is. "I'm at the point where I've hit a real high in my career. I don't think I'm quite exactly where I aim to be yet, but I'm in such a privileged place, and I'm so happy and lucky to do the jobs I do."

A Family No Stranger to Health Worries
Heartbreakingly, though, Ruby is not the only person close to Siân who has faced a serious health battle. In a candid appearance on "Loose Women" in September 2025, Siân opened up about her father Ian's diagnosis with vascular dementia — a condition he has been living with for five years.
Speaking with characteristic warmth and honesty, Siân described the difficulty of recognising the early signs. "My dad is in his 80s, he's an old dad, so you just claim it's old age. It's awful," she said. "You feel guilty afterwards because they drive you a bit mad for a while."
She also offered a quietly moving insight into how music has become a lifeline for her father. "Music is massive," she said. "It seems to be across the border connection that is so powerful for people with dementia or Alzheimer's because it takes them back to a time when they can remember, because all the long term memories are there."
Siân also shared that she noticed that her father seemed to be the most present when tuned into music — and in those moments, she would have the "best conversations" with him.
A Lot to Carry — and Still Showing Up
That Siân is carrying all of this — a father's declining health, a baby's frightening hospital dash, a wedding still to plan, and a career at full throttle — makes her Tuesday night Instagram post all the more striking.
Rather than suffering in silence, she chose to share, and to reassure the fans who had written in with concern. Ruby is home safe. For a family that knows all too well how quickly things can change, that must be everything.
