'EastEnders' Star Nina Wadia, 57, Loses Two Stone and Stuns Fans with Her 'Natural Beauty' – 15 Before-and-After Photos
She walked onto "Good Morning Britain" looking like a completely different woman — and the internet has not stopped talking about it since. Scroll down to see all 15 before-and-after photos of her stunning transformation over the years.
Nina Wadia, best known to British soap fans as the formidable Zainab Masood on "EastEnders", has revealed she has lost two stone over the past three years.
The 57-year-old actress, who played the beloved character for six years, has been candid about how she did it — and equally candid about what she refuses to do.
When host Susanna Reid pointed out the dramatic transformation during Wadia's appearance on "Good Morning Britain" in January, the actress was quick to set the record straight.
"But this is over the last three years," Wadia said modestly. "It's been done very gradually. So this is like it's been an ongoing project. And the reason for it is I want it to stay off."
The clarification mattered, because Wadia has been fielding questions about weight loss jabs ever since she began looking noticeably slimmer. "I get that all the time since this thing has been out," she admitted. "And I'm like, no, the reason it stayed off is because I've been doing it very, very gradually."
Her method? Almost stubbornly simple. "I exercise. I walk. I eat healthier," she told The Sun. "I think it's better to do it that way."
She has also swapped some old habits for new ones — eating more vegetarian food, juicing regularly, and, with some reluctance, trading milk chocolate for dark. "I love chocolate but I'm having dark chocolate now," she confessed.
The turning point, Wadia explained on "Good Morning Britain", came when she hit 50 and the NHS began sending her letters about diabetes and cholesterol checks. It was a wake-up call she did not ignore.
"Once you hit that age, for me, it's like I have no metabolic rate anymore," she said. "I have to be so careful about making sure that I move every single day, because there's a day you don't move, you'll put on a pound. It's ridiculous."
Her solution has been to make movement not just a habit but a social one. "Women like to chat, right?" Wadia said. "You go out for a walk with a friend, you get to have your chat. At the same time, you're getting your body moving. Your mood kind of changes. You feel better about yourself." Even ten minutes, she insisted, can shift everything.
On weight loss injections, Wadia has been measured rather than dismissive. She can see the case for using them as a "kickstarter" in cases of severe obesity, but she has also watched friends suffer — losing their appetite entirely, slipping into depression. "Quick fixes never work," she told The Sun plainly. "It's a change in lifestyle."
Her philosophy on ageing is just as direct. "Just enjoy your natural beauty," she said. "It doesn't last long. Enjoy it while it's there and age gracefully." It is a message she carries into her NHS work with the "This Girl Can" campaign, which champions physical activity among women of all ages.
Wadia has also been refreshingly honest about the industry she works in. Decades after finding fame with the beloved 90s comedy "Goodness Gracious Me" and later starring in "The Vicar of Dibley" alongside Dawn French, she admits that keeping the work coming has grown harder with age.
"As you get older jobs get a bit more scarce," she told The Sun. "Just generally speaking it's just trying to balance career and lifestyle."
Motherhood, she says, has complicated that balance further — and the industry has not always been understanding. "It's hard being a mother and having this career because you do have to prioritise being a mother. That is the most important thing."
She added that discrimination has been a real and recurring part of her experience. "Throughout my career there has been moments of discrimination for being a mother," she said, "and I've chosen motherhood over the work, and they've been like okay, well maybe we won't see you for another couple of years."
But if the industry has been slow to take notice, fans most certainly have not.
Those who have spotted her recent appearances have been visibly struck by how she looks. On a February Instagram post marking a "Goodness Gracious Me" cast reunion at BAFTA, the comments came thick and fast.
"Look at those legs!! Xx," one admirer gushed. "Looking fab Nina - those legs! 🔥," another eagerly agreed. Over on Maison Nur Magazine's Instagram, where Wadia featured in a glittering editorial shoot, the reaction was no less effusive.
"She's an angel 😍❤️," a third swooned. "Absolute rockstar and what a lovely photo!" one follower exclaimed warmly. "Natural beauty 😍 🔥," yet another declared.
Wadia herself seems entirely unbothered by the fuss — which, of course, is rather the point. See how the star has evolved through the years below.
