Charles says he has finally found the right person as he embarks on his fourth marriage with Cat, 43 — the same age as Prince William, a detail royal fans quickly noticed.

A historian and author of nine books, Charles has long lived in the public eye.

Before marrying Cat, he was married to Victoria Lockwood from 1989 to 1997, Caroline Freud from 2001 to 2007, and Karen Spencer, with whom he shares a daughter, from 2011 until their divorce was finalized in December 2025.

The ceremony took place near Sedona's Cathedral Rock on May 15, with the dramatic red rock formation visible in the background of several wedding photos.

Cat wore a pale blue sleeveless gown with cutout details at the waist, while Charles opted for a dark suit and an open collar light blue shirt for the relaxed occasion.

In one photo, Cat took a smiling selfie with Charles, the couple looking at ease in the Arizona sun. In a joint statement, the newlyweds said:

"We both feel so incredibly lucky to have progressed from being colleagues, to friendship, to deep love and connection. Each stage of our relationship has been underpinned by laughter and we share a passion for life."

But while the couple framed their relationship as a deep personal connection, many online remained focused on the pair’s age difference and Charles’s past relationships.

"She's the same age as William," one commenter wrote, a detail that traveled fast online. Others turned their attention to Charles' marital history. "Fourth time? Wow. He's not really good at being married, is he?" one reader remarked.

Not all reactions were critical, however, with some readers simply offering "congratulations" to the newlyweds.

One was more charitable: "4th time lucky, I guess." Another offered their own explanation for the attraction, "They fall completely in love with his good looks and scintillating personality."

The two first crossed paths when Charles reviewed Cat's 2021 Sunday Times bestseller "River Kings" before going on to collaborate on archaeological projects and co-host the popular history podcast "The Rabbit Hole Detectives."

They confirmed their romance in October 2024.

The story of how that working friendship became something more is one Charles has described as gradual and entirely unplanned.

Cat, who is Norwegian-born, came to Althorp in 2021 as part of a Channel 4 television crew, drawn by the estate's archaeological history and long-standing rumors of a medieval village buried on the grounds.

She has been open about having little awareness of who owned the place. "I'm a nerd. I'd heard of Althorp and was excited about the lost village," she recalled:

"To be completely honest, I didn't know who Charles was. He sort of tagged along."

Charles appeared deeply impressed by Cat’s expertise, once admitting that spending time with her opened up an entirely new world of history and archaeology for him, including his first-ever visit to the British Museum.

A bioarchaeologist specializing in the Viking Age, Cat has become a familiar face to British television audiences through her work on BBC Two’s "Digging for Britain." She is also the author of multiple books, including 2023’s "The Bone Chests," and is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

Outside her academic work, she is a mother of two sons.

Their path to the altar was not without turbulence, however, as the relationship emerged during Charles' separation from Karen and quickly attracted intense public scrutiny.

Cat later filed a lawsuit against Karen over alleged misuse of private information. She claimed details of her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, which she had kept private since 2016, had been disclosed without her consent to the Earl and members of staff at Althorp House.

Karen denied liability, stating that she argued any reference to Cat's condition was "entirely legitimate and justified." In 2024 court filings, Karen also alleged a long-term relationship between Charles and Cat, something both categorically denied.

The case was settled in late 2025.

Through it all, Cat remained by Charles's side. He had already said that he had "FINALLY fallen in love with the right woman," and the depth of that bond became clear in a personal milestone he later shared on X:

"I made it to 6 months without alcohol, yesterday. Never felt better. Thank you @CatJarman for your quiet and thoughtful support in this happy transformation."

Charles has described the relationship as unlike any he had experienced before, saying Cat made him feel completely at ease in himself. He suggested that, with her, there was no pressure to perform or present a version of himself for others, adding that she brought out qualities in him he valued most.

Cat, meanwhile, emphasized the steady foundation of their connection, saying their relationship grew naturally out of friendship and shared experiences over time.

While the couple's relationship has drawn intense public attention, their wedding marks a new chapter for Spencer, whose latest marriage is already generating conversation across the royal world.
