Thankful for the gift of his son and the year that was, the 50-year-old talk show host posted a sweet photo of Billy’s birthday smile to accompany his touching message.
“A year ago today, God gave us this tough little boy. Today, we thank the nurses & doctors at @CedarsSinai & @ChildrensLA who saved his life & those who shared thoughts & prayers.”
Just days after Billy was born, he was diagnosed with a life threatening congenital heart condition that needed immediate care. On his show, Jimmy tearfully recalled the ordeal he and his wife Molly McNearney had to endure when their son had to undergo an open heart surgery just three days old.
Since Billy’s health scare, Jimmy has been very vocal about children’s healthcare in America and to finish off his birthday message, he encouraged others to register to vote in order to make a difference.
“We cannot stay quiet. Please wish Billy happy birthday by REGISTERING TO VOTE! https://vote.gov.”
Joining the famous host in greeting his son was his wife who also posted a photo of herself kissing her son and wrote,
“One year ago I pushed this little fighter into the world. He’s taught me true strength and joy. We promise to keep fighting for kids like you, sweet Billy. Thank you God for this light.”
According to the Daily Mail, a host of celebrities also shared in the joy of Billy’s 1st birthday, one of which was Justin Theroux, a good friend of the Kimmels, who took to his Instagram to personally deliver his birthday message.
Posting a series of sweet photos of him and Billy sharing a tender moment, Justin paid tribute to the little boy’s impact on American health care in his message.
“Happy ONE year birthday Billy! A boy who in 365 days has done more for American national health care than we could all wish to do in our lifetimes.”
He also added,
“He doesn’t even know yet how courageous he is. An honor to know him and his incredible and equally courageous parents.”
Just like Jimmy, Justin also thanked Cedars-Sinai Hospital and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles before ending his message with the hashtag #registertovote.
Other celebrities showered Billy with praises and warm wishes as well. Ellen DeGeneres described him as “one tough kid” while Tom Arnold said that Billy is “already a hero.” Alec Baldwin wished Billy and his family God’s blessings.
Happy birthday sweet Billy!
