Sleep expert explains why people shouldn't sleep on their right side
A chiropractor and sleep expert has revealed that sleeping on the right side of your body could be bad or good for your health. It may aggravate health issues you already have.
Instead, Dr. John Douillard has advised that it’s best to sleep on your left side. Sleeping on this side of the body also has many benefits including four specific ones that Shared covered.
It’s been reported that many people suffer from sleeping disorders. Lack of sleep doesn't only leave people tired, but it could also have a number of other adverse effects on one’s health.
It can promote high blood pressure, depression, excess stress, and weight gain. Studies have shown that it’s best to get between 7 and 8 hours of sleep every night.
“Emphasizing the left side for rest and sleep offers some time-tested wisdom for very real health and longevity benefits.”

However, quantity is not the only important thing when it comes to sleep, according to Douillard. He shared that quality was even more important.
The doctor advised that sleeping on the left side was a much better option than on the right side. There are four main benefits that come from sleeping on this side of one’s body:
1. Stops snoring: People who generally snore will do so less when they sleep on their left sides. Snoring can negatively affect the way the heart functions and sleeping on the left can also help to reduce sleep apnea.
2. Supports the lymphatic system: This position will help the body to flush out toxins, waste, and lymph fluid.
3. Relieves heartburn: People who suffer from heartburn and a sensitive stomach will benefit greatly from sleeping on their left side.
4. Improves heart health: This sleeping position will boost the functioning of the heart, and will even help to prevent cardiovascular problems later on.
