Duchess Kate made some subtle tributes to the Royal Family this week while presenting her third child. Most people noticed the cute baby boy, but not what she was wearing.

As she stood beside her husband, Prince William, on April 23, 2018, Kate made sure to wear earrings from someone dear to her. People reported that her dress was also meant as a tribute.

Duchess Kate walked onto the steps of the Lindo Wing outside St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday with her newborn son in her arms. Most of the focus went to him on that day.

However, the Duchess purposefully wore a red Jenny Packham dress with a white Peter Pan collar. This wasn’t just a fashion choice but a nod to the dress that Princess Diana wore after she gave birth to Prince Harry in 1984.

She also paid homage to one other Royal. Kate wore Queen Elizabeth’s diamond and pearl drop earrings as she presented the royal baby public. The earrings were on loan to her by the Queen.

They are one of Kate’s favorites which she has worn on several occasions. In 2016 she wore them during a 2016 visit to the Mauritshuis gallery in Holland, where she viewed the iconic painting, ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring.’

Queen Elizabeth last wore them during her Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012. The earrings aren’t the only jewelry that Kate has had access to because of the Queen.

She’s worn the Queen’s own wedding bracelet, the Lotus Flower tiara, and her diamond-encrusted maple leaf brooch to name a few. One of the most famous pieces that Kate has borrowed was also her first: the Cartier ‘Halo’ tiara.

The Duchess wore it on her wedding day in 2011. After giving birth on Monday, Kate is now back home in Kensington Palace with her husband and two older children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Royal biographer, Ingrid Seward, shared that the third child has completed their family. A friend of the couple noted that Kate was one of three siblings and that it was a good family size to have.

The friend added that parenthood “suits them really well. They are enjoying it and are very happy.”
