Ric Ocasek and Paulina Porizkova split up after 28 years

The musician and the former supermodel hadn't been emotionally together for about a year now, which led to the inevitable separation.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, by Paulina Porizkova, who took to her Instagram page to share the sad news with her thousands of fans and followers.

She posted a very curious message containing several metaphors regarding cars, a possible allusion to her husband's former role as The Cars' lead singer, as reported by People.

Porizkova started by comparing her family to a well-built car, saying that that would never change, and went on to talk about the slow deterioration of her marriage throughout the past year.

“When the four of us are together, we can go wherever the road takes us. But as a bicycle, my husband and I no longer pedal in unison. So we’re ditching the bicycle.”

The Czech-born 53-year-old, who is also an actress, revealed that they had been quietly and peacefully drifting apart and that the photos posted on social media were merely family ones.

She continued by saying that neither considered themselves as a couple, but that their love for one another was so 'wide and deep' that it was 'practically tangible.'

Despite the separation, Porizkova let her fans know that they would continue to find family photos on her Instagram because they would forever be a family and part of each other's lives.

In the end, Porizkova informed that neither she nor Ocasek would make any further comments regarding the separation out of respect for their children: Jonathan and Oliver Ocasek.

The announcement came as a surprise. Last month, the former couple showed a united front at the 74-year-old musician's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, in Ohio.

Both Ocasek and Porizkova appeared wearing back and red ensembles, posing for the cameras with Jonathan and Oliver by their side.
