Jennifer Lopez dons glittering dress with huge cross on her chest
The 48-year-old singer and actor, Jennifer Lopez, was the center of attention when she wore an eye-catching dress to the Met Gala in New York.
The theme of the event was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion & The Catholic Imagination, and on May 7, 2018, Lopez gave life to the concept by showing up in an embellished Balmain gown.
As reported by Daily Mail, the dress was created by Balmain head designer, Olivier Rousteing, and featured a beaded red and blue crucifix on the chest with a long ostrich feathered train.
The high neckline gave Lopez an air of authority, and she struck a pose that reinforced that idea while photographers scurried to get a good angle.
The thigh-high slit showed off her long legs, and Lopez wore black stilettos to accentuate her shapely calves and completed the look with a black clutch bag.
She used dark eyeshadow and coupled it with nude lipstick for balance, and defined her cheekbones with bronze contouring, while her hair was sleeked away from her face.
Her partner Alex Rodriguez cut a dashing figure by her side. He chose a black single-breasted lapel suit, with black shoes, shirt and bow tie.
The Gala was hosted at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York, where Vatican vestments such as the Pope's silk cape and the Bishop's hat was on display.
Vogue Editor-In-Chief, Anna Wintour, chaired the proceedings. In the past, the event was hosted by Beyonce, Katy Perry, Amal Clooney, and Donatella Versace.
According to Vogue, this year's Vatican theme and the institute's intention to combine modern fashion with sacred religious artifacts was the 'most controversial yet.'
The event, which was first introduced in the late 1940's, also serves as an annual fundraising function with proceeds going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute.
