They thought they had gotten a cute little puppy, but it started to grow up they understood it actually was a completely different animal that belonged in the wild.

A woman in the Chinese Southwest received a great surprise as she found out that the ‘dog’ she had been keeping as a pet for the past two years was actually an endangered wild species, according to Independent.

When the woman, named Su Yun, bought a puppy for her family, she was surprised at how much the ‘dog’ used to eat. He would consume a box of fruits and two bowls of noodles every day.

It turned out that there was a reason behind his insatiable appetite. The unusual pet grew up to become a bear that weighed more than 200 pounds.

The family became aware of their mistake when they noticed that their pet never stopped growing and started to show a great ability to walk on two legs.

‘The more he grew, the more like a bear he looked. I am a little scared of bears,’ Yun told China News.

Eventually, Yun and her family found out that their beloved pet wasn’t a real dog. They also learned that it was illegal to raise or to keep wild animals as pets and she looked for help in a local zoo.

As unbelievable or ridiculous this confusion could sound, Yun’s family was not ashamed to learn they had been fooled because they weren’t the first ones among their neighbors to mistake a bear for a dog when looking for a family pet.

Back in March 2018 local media from the province of Yunnan, where Yun’s family lives, reported on a man who took what he thought to be a stray dog. When the animal grew up the man knew it was actually a black bear, and he kept it in a cage.
