The Voice has become a globally popular singing reality show, with many countries bringing out the show in their own native language.

Last year, South Africa premiered the first season of the show, and one of the contestants helped create an unforgettable moment in the history of the show.

During the auditions, 22-year-old Vernon Barnard walked on to the stage, as the judges Karen Zoid, Lira, Kahn Morbee and Bobby van Jaarsveld waited to hear him sing.

As per the format of the show, the judges must conduct blind auditions, in which they sit with their back towards the contestant and can hit the ‘I Want You’ button to turn around, to display their approval.

A few moments after entering the stage, Barnard began singing Story Of My Life, originally composed by One Direction.

Just a few words later, the judge Bobby was seen jolting in awe, and he immediately pressed the button to turn around.

Even before he was completely facing Barnard, he jumped in his seat as he lost himself in the brilliant expressive performance.

Soon, the other coaches turned around and cheered for Barnard. It was then that they noticed that Barnard was visually impaired.

The unique reaction of the coaches went viral through an online video of Barnard’s performance.

According to Tiphero, Barnard was diagnosed with glaucoma at birth and underwent multiple surgeries before going completely blind at the age of 6.

He is also a self-taught drummer and decided to become a singer after winning a singing contest at school.

He continued to be cheered and supported by the coaches for delivering breathtaking performances throughout the season. He did not win the season, however, it changed his life in multiple ways.

Not only did he get exposure through the show, he also fell in love with one of his competitors on the show, Nadine Sisam.
