Kanye West reportedly paid $85,000 to use Whitney Houston bathroom photo as Pusha T album cover
Kanye West's creative vision has had people criticizing him yet again. Earlier today, he took to his Twitter account to reveal the cover art for Pusha T's latest album "DAYTONA", and people are not happy about it.
In the photo, Whitney Houston's infamous drug-covered bathroom appears to have been his choice for the album cover. The photo was previously published in the National Enquirer when it was first revealed.
In addition to what Kanye shared on his Twitter, Pusha T claimed in one of his latest interviews that the photograph cost Kanye $85000. During his interview with the Angie Martinez Show, he recalled how Kanye called him up at 1am, not knowing it was actually West calling him.
"1am, my phone rings, no caller-ID. "Hey, yeah. I think that we should change the artwork. I like this other artwork."."
Pusha T eagerly explained how Kanye's idea was one that would cost a lot of money, and he wasn't willing to pay for any of it.
"Now this other artwork is 85 gand. I said "Hey, I don't want to pay for that. And I wasn't even going to ask you to pay for that. We picked what we picked. It's here, it's ready.". [He replied] "No, this is what people need to see to go along with this music. Imma pay for that."
While he seemed opposed to the idea, Pusha T clarified "I love it. I actually do love it. It's dope. I absolutely didn't want to pay for it.".
When the show host Angie Martinez asked what exactly the picture was, Pusha T refrained from admitting it. Instead, he said:
"It's a picture. To license it worldwide is $85000. I'm not really too fully entrenched in the art world like that. I'm just going to let him do his thing."
Kanye has been helping Pusha T produce his album, and has been promoting its finished product on Twitter. After the cover art was released, Kanye expressed how thankful he was for the positive reviews.
"DAYTONA is the first project out of Wyoming. I'm really proud of what we put together. We've spent a year and a half digging for samples and writing. I really appreciate the overwhelmingly positive response that we've been receiving."
This doesn't seem to be the case however, after fans have expressed their dismay at how Kanye used Whitney's bathroom photo as it was disrespectful to the late icon.
