Serena Williams has made it clear that her little girl is her first priority. She has also been on record saying that her anxiety disappeared with the birth of her child. Could sleeping beauty be the drive that mommy needs to break a record set over two decades ago?

Serena Williams returned to professional tennis in this year’s French Open and she made a splash almost immediately. She had however made it clear that her major commitment was to her daughter, Olympia Alexis Ohanian. On Monday, she posted a photo of her sleeping beauty al peaceful in her nap oblivious of momma’s big day ahead. Serena has been in near perfect form, winning all her matches like the champ she really is.

The 23-grand slam winner revealed to Vogue’s January issue that being a mother made her realize she always had that dream.

“We’re not spending a day apart until she’s eighteen. Now that I’m 36 and I look at my baby, I remember that this was also one of my goals when I was little, before tennis took over, when I was still kind of a normal girl who played with dolls. Oh, my God, I loved my dolls.”

Does she think that being a mother will help her reach her dram of 25 grand slams? “When I’m too anxious I lose matches, and I feel like a lot of that anxiety disappeared when Olympia was born. Knowing I’ve got this beautiful baby to go home to makes me feel like I don’t have to play another match. I don’t need the money or the titles or the prestige. I want them, but I don’t need them. That’s a different feeling for me.”

Unfortunately, an injury brought Serena’s comeback plans to an end, at least in this tournament. A pectoral injury that had been with her for two days was getting worse, she said, and so she decided to withdraw. It was only hours before her highly anticipated meeting with Maria Sharapova, who has been her greatest rival. “I have been having some issues with my pec muscle and it has unfortunately been getting worse, to the point where right now I can’t actually serve.”

Well, there’s always going to be another chance for two of the greatest to battle it against each other on the court.
