Here's what Todd Chrisley's daughter said about being adopted
Lindsie Chrisley revealed an important family secret during a recent episode of the podcast talk show she co-hosts with Teen Mom 2’s Kail Lowry, sharing what her stepmother did for her.
The 29-year-old daughter of the 49-year-old real state mogul and reality TV personality Todd Chrisley shared for the first time that she was legally adopted by his father’s second wife when they married.
According to Lindsie, 45-year-old Julie wanted to make sure she didn’t feel any different to the rest of the marriage’s children, and she adopted her as a way to include her in the family even more.
Todd and his first wife Teresa Terry, Lindsie’s biological mother divorced in 1996 after a short marriage. Lindsie was only 7 by then. Despite the parents having joint custody of her, she ended up choosing to stay with her father in California.
Todd soon married again and he went on to have three more children with Julie, forming a blended family that included Lindsie and Kyle from his previous relationship, as Hyperactiviz reviewed.
Lindsie stated that the legal procedure was very significant to her, as it helped her overcome a sense of alienation, making her feel a legitimate member of the ‘tribe.’
‘I am from my dad’s first marriage. So his last three kids are from my dad and his wife on the show. So my stepmom adopted me legally,’ Lindsey told Lowry in the podcast’s 29th episode, released on May 24.
‘I kind of felt a sense of like I wanted to fit in. I kind of felt like an outcast. Even though they didn’t make me feel like that intentionally, I just felt that way,’ admitted Lindsie to her 26-year-old co-host and longtime friend.
26-year-old Chelsea Houska DeBoer also of Teen Mom 2 fame, joined Lindsie and Lowry as a guest in the episode, and she said that she could relate to Lindsie’s experience, having recently gone through something similar.
Houska went on to share that her 8-year-old daughter Aubree had become estranged from her biological father Adam Lind, given that she never had much contact with him, in addition to Lind’s legal problems.
This is why Houska’s second husband Cole DeBoer adopted Aubree and gave her his last name, as the mother-of-two explained. Houska and DeBoer have a 15-month-old son named Watson Cole DeBoer.
Lindsey and Houska agreed about the importance of children feeling included and accepted when they are part of a blended family, something increasingly common. Read more on our Twitter account @amomama_usa
