Mama June reveals diet that helped her lose 25 lbs
The reality television star recently gained a bit of weight back after debuting her shock weight loss last year, but has revealed she is on a specific diet to help her shed the pounds.
Mama June Shannon has been overweight since before the Here Comes Honey Boo Boo days. But in 2017 she underwent gastric sleeve surgery and lost a whopping 300 pounds, dropping down to a size 4.
But in 2018, things didn't go quite to plan. Shannon lost the vision in her right eye, and the vision of her left was severely compromised. As a result, she needed to undergo a number of surgeries to help correct her sight.
Because of her surgeries, Shannon wasn't able to exercise, and she started reverting back to her old eating habits.
She openly shared with People that she had gained 25 pounds again, and was trying desperately to stay under 200 pounds.
In an effort to lose the re-gained weight, Shannon has resorted to the keto diet, and is very pleased with the results.
“I’ve tried the keto diet, and it’s not that bad. It’s like, cheese, eggs, protein, meat. And you honestly lose weight with that,” she said. “That’s what I’ve been going back to, and I’ve started losing a couple pounds. But it actually, really works.”
The keto diet focuses on eating proteins and fats, and all but cuts carbs out completely. The purpose is to force the metabolic system to burn body fat instead of glucose to create energy.
Shannon shared that it suits her food cravings anyway, because bread and pasta weren't ever really high on her priority list.
While she swears by the diet for herself, Shannon was quick to point out that she doesn't necessarily think it would work for everyone.
“I’m not here to tell people how to diet, because everyone’s different, but I know what has worked for me,” she said. “I think people just don’t need to give up, and I think that’s what happens with a lot of diets nowadays. I’ve done that.”
At the moment, as much as she wants to lose the extra pounds, her main focus is on restoring her vision as much as she possibly can.
