However, behind the glossy photos and glowing praise lies a highly volatile and disturbing private battle. On July 7, her estranged husband, Aaron Phypers, 49, filed for divorce after six years of marriage. According to court documents obtained by People, he cited "irreconcilable differences" and listed July 4 as their date of separation.
Since the filing, Richards has accused Phypers of repeated domestic abuse and sought protection under the law. In recent court documents obtained by People, she reportedly detailed years of alleged physical violence:
"Aaron would frequently violently choke me, violently squeeze my head with both hands, tightly squeeze my arms, violently slap me in my face and head, aggressively slam my head into the bathroom towel rack, threaten to kill me, hold me down with his knee on my back to the point where I would have to plead with him to get off me so that he would not kill me."

Richards also reportedly claimed that Phypers "owns at least eight unregistered guns" and "multiple bullet proof vests." She claimed the incident occurred on July 4 and 5, when Phypers allegedly screamed degrading profanities at her in the presence of his father, pushed and dragged her to the ground.

On July 16, Richards was reportedly granted a temporary domestic violence restraining order by the Superior Court of California. She did not request protective orders for her three children. Though Phypers was in the process of adopting Eloise during the marriage, Richards confirmed in court filings that they share "no minor children."
The situation has since escalated. On July 28, Richards reportedly filed another court motion accusing Phypers of violating the restraining order by disseminating private information obtained from her phone and laptop to the media.

She asked the court to order him to return all her electronic devices and prohibit him from using or sharing any of their contents. Her attorney, Brett Berman, accused Phypers of stealing the devices and spreading false narratives, calling his actions a violation of the order.

Phypers, in a statement to People, denied all abuse allegations and refuted the claims of theft and misconduct, stating, "Nothing was stolen, and nothing is missing — except, perhaps, Ms. Richards' moral compass." He added, "These claims are not only untrue — they are being weaponized to damage my reputation and distract from the truth."

In an exclusive interview with TMZ, Phypers offered his version of what led to the explosive July 4 argument and subsequent divorce filing. He claimed that earlier in the year, he discovered evidence of an alleged affair between Richards and another man on her laptop. He said he confronted Richards and they agreed to stay together until the huge fight on the July 4 weekend.

Phypers also accused Richards of texting his mother that weekend to say she planned to file for divorce, prompting him to file first. He claimed that the domestic violence restraining order was a tactic to paint him as the villain before news of the affair could surface.

He also shared photos of what he described as their disorganized home, saying he and his family had been left to manage her properties and animals. Despite the bitter claims on both sides, Phypers said he still loves Richards and hopes she gets help.

Richards has not responded publicly to Phypers' claims of infidelity but continues to press for court-ordered boundaries, including the return of her electronic devices and protection of her private communications.
The former couple's relationship had once appeared strong, with Richards declaring, "Yeah, I’m never getting divorced again. Even if we hate each other, I'm not gonna [expletive] get divorced," in a March episode of their Bravo reality show, "Denise Richards & Her Wild Things."
Phypers added at the time, "We'll just have different homes or something. But we're not gonna hate each other."
