Melania Trump honors 4th of July in red, white and blue Ralph Lauren gown

For the 4th of July holiday, First Lady Melania Trump made sure to honor the day appropriately. She wore the colors of the American flag in a simple dress.

According to a Twitter post by the First Lady, she looked stunning in the floor-length dress. She and her husband, President Donald Trump, hosted a picnic at the White House on the day.

For Independence Day, the President and Melania Trump hosted a picnic with food and fireworks for military families on the White House lawn. Trump chose to wear a $2,490, blue-and-white Rivera gingham Ralph Lauren evening dress.

The dress had a red bow-belt around the waist which was created by Alexander McQueen. The belt was originally priced at $921 but currently, it’s on sale for $552.

Ralph Lauren is traditionally an American designer. Trump’s dress is seen as a nod to the American culture. Her belt, which is the on-sale $537 from Alexander McQueen, is a British nod.

Whereas her shoes are an acknowledgment to the French. Fashion commentators thought the mix of American, British, and French designers were subtle nods to the strong partnerships between the three nations.

Trump has favored Ralph Lauren on multiple official occasions since becoming the First Lady. The second go-to label is Dolce & Gabbana.

She famously wore a Ralph Lauren coat dress for her first official appearance as FLOTUS at her husband's Presidential Inauguration in January 2017. Her outfit garnered favorable comparisons to the style of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
