Here's how a doctor lost 125-lb with a special diet
Dr. Kevin Gendreau lost 125 pounds with the help of intermittent fasting.
On May 4, 2018, Dr. Gendreau took to Instagram to share his remarkable weight loss story.
"I woke up this morning to discover that I’ve lost a total of 125 POUNDS!" he captioned the before and after photo. "Let this photo serve as inspiration to everyone out there who thinks they can’t do something."

He added: "Learn to accept the things you can’t change and CONTROL the things you can."
There were three significant components he took before losing weight - finding the proper motivation, a whole food diet without processed carbohydrates and intermittent fasting.
Dr. Gendreau revealed to People that the motivation came with tragedy.
“When my sister was diagnosed with an aggressive, rare form of cancer, I decided to change my life,” he said. “For me, being obese was a choice. How could I literally eat myself to death while my poor sister was fighting for her life?”
In 2016, Dr. Gendreau, who had reached 300 lbs. by consuming “a diet full of bread, pasta and chips,” was diagnosed with hypertension, high cholesterol, diabetes, sleep apnea, plantar fasciitis and fatty liver disease.
That was the time he decided to make a change. He realized that he had been “an emotional eater” after the stressful years including the death of his father and the medical school's challenges.
“Once I made the black-and-white decision to stop being unhealthy, everything else just fell into place,” said the Fairhaven, Mass. primary care physician.
Dr. Gendreau switched to high fat and low carb diet. He also began tracking his weight loss journey through MyFitnessPal.
“As my sister’s condition worsened, I became more motivated than ever to eat healthfully because I knew my niece [Sophia, now 7] and nephew [Henry, now 3] would need me to be at my best,” he said. In June 2017, his sister passed away.
Dr. Gendreau only consumed fruits, vegetables, nuts, chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, non-fat Greek yogurt, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and noncaloric spices and seasoning.
“If it’s not on that list, I don’t eat it,” he said. “It’s astonishing to see how quickly and permanently you can lose weight with a whole food diet like this.”
He then turned to intermittent fasting after reading and learning more about it from The Obesity Code.
Dr. Gendreau said: “Intermittent fasting works because it helps naturally decrease your daily calorie consumption while improving your insulin sensitivity."
“Intermittent fasting has been life changing for many of my pre-diabetic and diabetic patients.”
Dr. Gendreau, however, cautioned, “Intermittent fasting is safe for most people, but not everyone. You should definitely talk to your own doctor before starting any diet or exercise plan.”
