White was a singer, musician, songwriter, and composer from Galveston, Texas.

Starting his career in 1960, he’s well known for having a very distinctive bass-baritone voice.

White finally rose to fame in the ‘70s after being part of ‘The Love Unlimited Orchestra’.

He also had a very successful solo career. White won three Grammy Awards, achieved gold status in 106 records, platinum status in 41 records, and also had 20 gold and 10 platinum singles.

His music was clearly influenced by artists such as Ray Charles, Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, and the Four Tops.

White passed away in 2003 after suffering from a severe stroke. His career lasted over 43 years.

One of his children, Darryl, is following in his footsteps and it seems like he inherited his father’s talent for music.
