DL Hughley recently sat down with VladTV and released some statements Magic Johnson may not be happy about. While speaking freely about the black church, the comedian sideswiped the basketball player’s gay son, EJ Johnson, whose choices don’t sit well with the radio host.

EJ Johnson didn’t have a problem coming out to his father Magic Johnson but someone else seems to have a problem with how he’s handling his being gay. In a new interview, DL Hughley slammed EL for how he chooses to dress.

EJ is proud of the fact that his parents support his being gay. He confessed his coming out was emotional, but it later turned out well.

EL recently opened up about coming out to his father during a ‘Red Table Talk’ interview with Jada Pinkett Smith. He was accompanied by his mother, Cookie, who revealed Magic cried when he first heard his son was gay.

“We had the talk with Dad [Magic Johnson] and that was a little tough. My husband is the kind of person like he reacts quickly. Everything that came to the top of his head, he just let it out.”

Cookie also disclosed that despite Magic’s initial reaction which she told him wasn’t right, he calmed down the following day and expressed his support for his son. He walked into EJ’s room and told him,

‘We’re going to get through this and I just need time.”

Magic and Cookie cried after that.

It took a while for Magic to come into terms with his son’s preference but EJ realized after he came back to visit after coming out, that everything was going to be ok.

“When I came back to visit, he picked me up for dinner. He hugged me so hard. He almost like broke my back. At that point, I was like, ‘We’re going to be ok.’ I could really feel the love.”

While EJ enjoys his freedom expressing his true nature, a recent interview of Hughley casts a shadow on his happiness. The ‘Empire Star’ was discussing to Vlad TV the kinds of people that comprise the black church, including homosexuals, when he was asked how he would deal with a gay son who’s extremely feminine, referring to EJ and his penchant for wearing dresses. Though DL didn’t directly address his opinion towards EJ, he suggested he wasn’t happy about EJ’s feminine ways.

“Listen, I could deal with anything. I love my children. I love them unconditionally. You can love dudes and not act like a brod, right? I mean, I get it, you can love dudes but you ain’t wearing a bra.”

Hughley’s latest remark, as honest as it may seem, may not sit well with Magic who’s accepted his son and is happy to support him. The NBA legend told Ellen DeGeneres on her show,

“It’s all about you not trying to decide what your daughter or son should be or what you want them to become.

“It’s all about loving them ― no matter who they are, what they decide to do.

“When my son came out I was so happy for him and happy for us as parents. And we love him ― EJ is amazing.”

For Magic, it’s important to be EJ’s number one supporter.

“You’e got to support your child because there’s so many people who try to discriminate against them. They need you to support them because if you don’t support them, who is going to support them? And love them.”

EJ, 26, is Magic and Cookie’s only biological child together. They adopted a daughter, Elisa, in 1995. Magic also has a 33-year-old son, Andre, from a previous relationship.

EJ made a name for himself as one of the stars of E!’s reality series ‘Rich Kids of Beverly Hills.’ In 2014, he shed more than 100 pounds after undergoing a gastric sleeve surgery.

EJ was only 15 when his mother caught him staring at boys during a vacation. At the time, he was still figuring out his sexuality. Three years later, he came out to his parents as he was about to leave for university.
