'The Voice' Reveals the Winner of Season 16

Tuesday was the final episode of “The Voice’s” two-day finale. Four contestants went head-to-head but only two of them had to battle it out to be crowned the winner of the singing competition.

FOUR CONTESTANTS BATTLE IT OUT

For “The Voice’s” season 16 finale, coaches Blake Shelton and John Legend‘s team members had to battle it out one final more time to make it to the top two. Maelyn Jarmon, 26, from Legend’s team competed with Gyth Rigdon from country music singer, Shelton’s team.

While Dexter Roberts and Andrew Sevener, both from Shelton’s team, also challenged each other for the top spot. In the end, Rigdon and Jarmon were left as the top two contestants.

THE WINNER IS ANNOUNCED!

Sevener was the first to go while Roberts came in third. Standing hand-in-hand waiting to hear who the winner would be Rigdon and Jarmon received words of encouragement from Legend, 40, and Shelton

After performing three times throughout the finale, Jarmon was officially named the winner of “The Voice!” That meant Rigdon was the runner-up.

JARMON'S THOUGHTS ON BEING ON TEAM LEGEND

Before the Monday finale episode, Jarmon had revealed that she felt lucky to have Legend as her coach. She told reporters: “I’m going to cherish our time that we’ve had together forever.”

The singer also confessed that she hoped to meet his family. She stated: “If I get my trophy, we need to have dinner with Chrissy [Teigen] and Luna and Miles. I want that! I haven’t even met her yet.”

LEGEND HELPED JARMON GROW

Jarmon, who is deaf in one ear, calls the disability her “superpower.” She shared that working with Legend had also helped her grow as a person.

The young singer explained: “Working with John, the main thing is that he really trusts my instincts and it makes me trust my instincts more.” She added: “I questioned myself a lot before I got here. He’s a musical genius, and for him to validate [my input] is like, ‘Wow.’ I’ll really take that with me that I trust myself more.”

THE WINNER'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS SUPPORTED HER

Around 20 of Jarmon’s friends and family members were seen amongst the crowd wearing “Maelyn” t-shirts. When the singer was announced as the winner her boyfriend Johnny Murrell joined her onstage to celebrate.

Legend was the first to go congratulate her and his wife tweeted: “This is literally the happiest I’ve ever seen John ever????” The finale featured many celebrities including the coaches.

ARTISTS WHO PERFORMED FOR THE FINALE

Taylor Swift and Brendon Urie performed “ME!,” while Halsey sang “Nightmare. Travis Tritt was also on hand to sing “T-R-O-U-B-L-E” and the Jonas Brothers sang their new hit “Cool.”

A BEHIND-THE-SCENES INCIDENT INVOLVING SHELTON'S GIRLFRIEND

After the first finale day, Roberts recalled a behind-the-scenes moment when he got to meet Shelton’s girlfriend, Gwen Stefani. After making it to the top 24 he got to meet her during their rehearsals.

The lucky contestant also got to meet the newly adopted stray dog that Stefani’s son found. “The Voice” has been renewed for season 17 on NBC.
