Erykah Badu's Daughter Mars Is the the Singer's Spitting Image in Photos on Her 12th Birthday

Erykah Badu’s daughter, Mars, who just turned 12, strongly resembles her mother in several photos posted on her mother’s Instagram account to celebrate her birthday.

Erykah Badu’s youngest child with Jay Electronica, Mars Merkaba, is the singer’s spitting image in a series of pictures shared on Badu’s Instagram earlier this week.

Badu commemorates 12 years of her daughter’s life with a slideshow of the child through the ages. The first picture shows Mars at present, but the other pictures flashback to other childhood stages.

Mars is featured as a toddler with small plaits, with a glorious afro, and then older while eating soup. In the second post, Badu shares some snaps from a photoshoot done with Mars a few years ago.

Badu also posted some other throwback pictures with her daughter as a child and a few images with Mars and her older half-sister, Puma Sabti. Badu wrote in her post:

“You have much to share with this lil school called Earth ! We ADORE you MARS!!!!”

Even at nine-years-old, Mars was showing off her singing skills inherited from her musically-gifted parents. In a video shared on Badu’s Instagram, the little girl expresses her voice alongside her mother in the car.

Badu and her youngest daughter sang the sweetest duet. Mars is cool and confident in her sunglasses. She was also happy to show off some of her sick dance moves while singing.

As it is Mars’ birthday, it is only natural to reflect on the day she was born. Badu, who was 37 at the time, delivered her baby girl at home without a midwife or a doctor's aid.

The father of the child, Jay Electronica, and Badu’s eldest daughter, Puma, were present to help out. After a few hours, they welcomed Mars. In her second Instagram post, Badu said:

“Happy born day Puddin !!!! You are beautiful. 12 winters and out of this world!!”

The RnB soul queen calls her troop of children as a collective, the “Hip-Hop’s Incredibles.” Badu has two other children. Her first-born is Seven Sirius Benjamin with Andre 3000 and her second child is Puma Sabti Curry with rapper D.O.C.

Seven is currently 23-years old and attends the University of Colorado-Boulder. His sister Puma is 18-years-old and is a talented singer like her mother and Mars.

Not much is known about Badu’s blended family. Her posts on social media show that she is proud of all three of her children and continues to support them in their endeavors.

It’s hard to believe how quickly they are growing up, particularly Mars, who becomes more mature and more beautiful with each day that passes, taking cues from her mother’s grace.
