Mom left baby in hot car while she drank inside restaurant and it almost led to tragedy
A mother from Tennessee allegedly left her baby girl inside a hot car while she was drinking inside a restaurant on National Tequila Day.
The 26-year-old woman, later identified as Rachel Vanwagner, left her daughter unattended inside the hot vehicle. Witnesses were able to hear the baby’s cry in time before anything grave happened.
Vanwagner was charged with child abuse and neglect after the incident that occurred in a parking lot outside a Mexican restaurant on Highway 70 in Arlington.
Reports revealed the woman was arrested but was later on released on an undisclosed bond value. The child was allegedly placed in the custody of Vanwagner’s mother.

Deputies of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call from a couple who heard the baby crying when they left the restaurant about seven in the evening, as reported by local TV station WMC.
The couple recalled that the baby was left in a car with the windows barely opened.
The charging documents gathered by station WHBQ revealed that the baby was sweating when the authorities arrived on the scene. At the time, the temperature outside was believed to be 92 degrees.
As for the mother, she reportedly ran out of the restaurant with her shoes missing when she noticed that police were surrounding her car.
She reportedly informed the authorities that she had only been inside the restaurant for 30 minutes and claimed that she just had one drink.
The Tribune Media Wire revealed that she was immediately taken into custody.
After receiving medical attention, the child was reported to be fine.
As for the mother, Vanwagner refused to give a statement to the authorities.
In other related news, a one-year-old passed away after his mother left him inside the car for more than eight hours.
