Pit bull carried 7-month-old baby by diaper to save her from deadly threat
A pitbull turned into a community hero when he carried a baby by her diaper to save her from a house fire.
In June 2018, the 8-month-old pitbull named Sasha saved baby Masailah and the rest of her family from a fire that had reached their home in Stockton.
Previously reported by Fox 40, Sasha warned the family of the coming danger before midnight, by barking and banging on the door of their home.
According to Nana Chaichanhda, the owner of the brave puppy, she opens the door and runs into the house and started barking.
"I open it and she runs in and starts barking at me like crazy and I was like, 'OK, this is weird. This is not like her.'"
It was when her dog wouldn't stop barking that Chaichanhda noticed that something was not right and that her cousin's apartment building was on fire. Immediately noticing that the fire was going to spread to her home, she ran into her bedroom to grab her little girl.
However, Sasha had already carried the 7-month-old baby in her mouth by her diaper, and the pitbull was carefully pulling her off the bed.
Although no one was hurt in the incident thank to the heroic actions of their dog, their home was deemed unlivable when the firefighters arrived at the scene.
Nana's cousin was not in her home at the time of the fire, and they are now both staying at their aunt's house while Sasha is staying with another family member while they figure out what to do next.
Chaichanhda was extremely thankful for her puppy, Sasha, saying that it meant everything to her that she saved her life.
"It meant a lot. I owe her everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn."
The family had lost everything, not being able to save their items as their main priority was to save themselves. Her sister, Christina White, created a GoFundMe page to help them ease their financial burdens and try to start over after losing their home.
The GoFundMe is now closed, and they were able to raise a total of $6538.00 to help them start over again.
Nana is a single mother to her 7-month-old baby girl, a 9-year-old son, and an 8-year-old daughter.
Still extremely traumatized after what had happened, it's been hard for the solo parent to answer any questions.
“It’s hard to answer the questions, ‘Where are we going to live?’ and ‘Are we going to be homeless?’ when I’m trying to figure that out as well, so right now we’re leaning on each other.”
Pitbulls are extremely misunderstood dogs, as most people consider them as dangerous. However, these animals are actually extremely soft once they get to know their owners, and are one of the fiercest protectors a family can ever get.
