A woman prevented a couple from parking by occupying the space herself

Parking in a city is a nightmare, especially in New York. A young couple looking for a parking space had a surreal experience.

The couple was looking for a spot to leave their car in a car-park in Flushing when the incident occurred. They spotted an empty space and were about to park when a woman on foot planted herself in it.

The driver, Nicholas Chew, and his wife were going out to eat dim sum at a popular New York restaurant when the clash with the woman ensued. The incident was recorded by a dash-cam and posted it on Youtube.

"You ran into the spot, are you serious? How can you stand in that spot right now? You have no car here."

Nicholas Chew, Youtube, 10th of March 2018.

The video of the occurrence shows a woman running into the empty parking space just as Chew starts driving into it.

Although she was on foot, the anonymous woman refused to move, claiming that she was keeping the spot for her father who was nearby and driving a white Jeep Compass.

Seeing no Jeep close by, Chew began honking his horn hoping the woman would leave.

On the video, Chew can be heard remonstrating with the woman, pointing out that she is not in a car and cannot, therefore, claim the spot.

The woman was then joined by her mother who bolstered her stance. Chew was now faced with two pedestrians standing in the parking space he hoped to claim.

By then the Jeep drove up, and Chew explained that the driver also tried to intimidate him.

Fortunately, another lady walked up to Chew and offered him the spot she would be vacating so he could park his car.

Chew agreed, mainly to allow the line of cars stuck behind him to move on. He later posted the footage from his dash-cam online and he garnered over 750.000 views.
