Here's why Meghan Markle selected a Givenchy dress for her first solo event
On Tuesday evening, the Duchess of Sussex made her first solo appearance since joining the Royal Family. She attended the opening of the Oceania exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London alone.
For this occasion, she chose to wear a dress by her go-to designer. She wore a Givenchy by Clare Waight Keller black dress.
Duchess Meghan, 37, often chooses to wear Givenchy for many of her outings. Tuesday was no different as she chose to wear a black Givenchy dress with a leg slit.
This was the first event, since becoming a Royal, that she attended without her husband Prince Harry or the Queen. Givenchy has been Meghan’s choice of brand for many events.

At the beginning of June, the Duchess wore the label again for her first solo engagement with the Queen. Later in the same month, she wore it again at her first Royal Ascot.
The following month, she was seen in the brand again when she arrived with Prince Harry for their first international trip to Ireland. During the second day of their Royal tour, Meghan pulled out another Givenchy look.
Her latest Givenchy look was elegant with contrasting paneling at the neckline and cuffs. The black dress featured sheer sleeves that gave a glimpse of the Duchess’ arms.
She wore with it Birks diamond jewelry and Aquazzura heels. Givenchy became one of her favorite labels during her wedding.
According to Kensington Palace, Clare Waight Keller was chosen:
“After meeting Ms. Waight Keller in early 2018, Ms. Markle chose to work with her for her timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanor.”
At the time, the palace had also added in a statement that Meghan had selected Keller because of her British heritage. It’s quite clear that the Duchess’ relationship with the brand is going to be a long-standing one.
In a different story about the new Royal, she and Harry revealed a pet peeve they share. Early this month at the WellChild awards, Meghan accidently admitted that she doesn’t like cameras being around her.
While speaking to one of the recipients of the awards, Mckenzie Brackley, 4, he told the Royal couple that he didn’t like having cameras around him. The two agreed with the boy’s sentiments.
