Teen discovers his father harshly abusing his mother and is forced to pull the trigger
The young man was questioned by the local police but was later released reportedly uncharged, while the Fresno County Sherriff’s Office is still investigating the incident.
The gruesome event took place on October 13 in Fresno, California. Following a family altercation, 54-year-old Javier Vera was found dead by the local police after his 16-year-old son, who shot him dead, reported an emergency.
According to Fox, the detectives sent to the crime scene determined that the teenager, whose identity is being protected, opened fire “to defend his mother’s life.” Read more on our Twitter account @amomama_usa
The Fresno Bee reported that Vera and his wife were arguing when things became physical, and the man, who had apparently been drinking, started to choke his 49-year-old partner, as sheriff’s spokesman Tony Botti told the news outlet.
When the couple’s son saw that his mother’s life was at risk, he took a gun and shot his father, who died from his wound. Immediately, the teenager called 911 claiming that a person had been injured in his home.
“Detectives interviewed the 16-year-old boy last night and determined his action of shooting his father was done to defend his mother’s life. He has been released to go back home with his mom.”
-Tony Botti, Visalia Times Delta, October 14, 2018.
Deputies arrived at the scene and took the shooter in for questioning, as well as collecting evidence from the home.
Whether the teenage boy intended to take his father’s life or was just trying to stop him from harming the mother, it remains unknown.
According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, an average of nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.
It is so unfortunate when good intended people are forced to go against their nature to take drastic measures when their loved ones are under menace.
That is exactly what happened to a Texas mother-of-two who had no alternative but shooting a carjacker that tried to drive off with her 2 and 4-year-old sons in the car’s backseat.
The woman, named Michelle Booker-Hicks jumped back in the car after it was jacked in a gas station, and when the man refused to stop as she asked, she reached for the gun she kept in the glove compartment and shot him.
