Applebee's waitress gets racist note from white family instead of tip
A 26-year-old waiter of an Applebee’s store in Kentucky didn’t get a tip but a racist note from a white family. Jasmine Brewer, the victim, took to Facebook to share the incident.
The race-driven problem took place at the restaurant located in Radcliff last month when Brewer served the white family of four exactly how she would have done it with any other customer.
As soon as she introduced herself, she noticed that something was not right. They were hesitant about talking to her, and they didn’t want to order their drinks or meals. After a while, only one person made the order, and they didn’t talk again during the rest of their time in the store.
Even though Brewer was as professional as possible and tried to serve the family in the best possible way, they just didn’t appreciate it. When they left, Brewer picked up the checkbook and opened it to look for the tip, although she wasn’t expecting it.
READING THE NOTE
Once she opened the checkbook, she noticed that there was a napkin in it with the following message: “we DON’T tip black people.” Brewer, who is a single mother, felt very embarrassed and didn’t know what to do.
ASKING FOR HER MOTHER’S HELP
She texted her mother, Regina, and sent the picture of the awful note trying to ask for her advice. Regina uploaded the image and the story in an outraged Facebook post that became viral soon later.
GETTING DONATIONS
After that, people started making online donations to let Brewer know that she didn’t have to worry about that kind of clients and that such actions proved how negative and harmful a person could be.
ADDRESING THE SITUATION
“All restaurant team members deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. The remarks directed at one of our franchisee’s employees are unacceptable and inconsistent with Applebee’s values as a brand,” a spokesman of the Applebee’s store declared.
FAKING A RACIST INCIDENT
It was not the first time that a server faced racist attacks. However, what Khalil Cavil’s did was different. He worked as a waiter at the Odessa’s Saltgrass Steak House in Texas and claimed that he had found a receipt with the note: “we don’t tip terrorist.”
Apart from that, Cavil’s name was circled, suggesting that the customer considered that the waiter was a “terrorist” for his name. The restaurant COO Terry Turney released a statement soon after the incident went viral pointing out that Cavil fabricated the story.
“Racism of any form is intolerable, and we will always act swiftly should it occur in any of our establishments. Falsely accusing someone of racism is equaling disturbing,” admitted Turney.
