‘Blue Bloods’ star reveals secret message of the family dinner scenes
There's more to the family dinner scenes that cap off the episodes of the beloved show. Bridget Moynahan, who plays Erin Reagan, let fans in on what it really means for the cast.
Moynahan spoke to Country Living about the show's nightly get-together. The fact that the cast has residences outside of New York plays a part in the meaning of the scene.
"It's that one event every episode that we get together, and in-between scenes we're catching up on each other's lives," she said.

She added:
“So that family dinner provides that social life for the cast every single week. It’s like a built-in date. It’s already prescheduled for us!”
The show has been running since 2010. So they've shared a lot of landmarks in their life with each other. It's also allowed them to form a close-knit bond.
This reflects in the dinner scene. It brings a more natural flow to the table. Fans can appreciate how the actors are genuinely comfortable with each other.
Moynahan described their relationship:
"We've had deaths and surgeries and births and marriages. We've all gone through major life moments together and shared these moments as a family together over the years. So it really feels like home on and off the screen."
The eighth season of the show sees Moynahan continuing to clash with her father Frank (Tom Selleck), and her brothers Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) and Jamie (Will Estes).
When asked about what fans can look forward to, Moynahan had little to divulge:
"They don't tell us anything, so we're always surprised. We're just as surprised as you guys."
Last season saw a shocking exit by Amy Carlson. She played Danny's wife, Linda Reagan. The actress was killed off via a helicopter accident.
Fans took to Twitter to express their disgruntlement. Carlson put out an open letter on her social media thanking fans and CBS for the opportunity.
It is believed that the actress' contract was up. She herself felt ready to move on to something else.
Meanwhile, Moynahan's long-standing role on the show comes after a history of heartbreak, family, and new romances.
The 47-year-old used to date football superstar Tom Brady. Their two-year relationship resulted in a son who is now eight. After their breakup, Moynahan said she found it challenging to be a single mom.
The announcement of her pregnancy came just after the pair split. At that time, Brady had moved on to dating Gisele Bundchen. Moynahan and Brady's son almost led to a split between him and Bundchen.
In 2015, Moynahan found committed love in Andrew Frankel, a Wall Street brokerage co-president. They got married that year.
Fans can catch Moynahan in "Blue Bloods" every Friday at 10 pm on CBS.
