Heroic mother sacrifices her life to give birth to her premature baby
Charlene Flores did what it took to save her daughter. The 27-year-old mother authorized a high-risk procedure on her body that led to her death.
Fresno resident Charlene Flores was pregnant with her fourth girl. Before her due date, she experienced contractions that were so painful she was unable to sleep.
Her husband, Elesandro Flores transported Charlene to the Community Regional Medical Center. Then, according to ABC 7, his wife told him to go home and rest. And to make sure their daughters arrived at school safely.

Elesandro did just that. But then he received a Facetime call from his wife.
"I need you here right now," she said.
The young mother, who had a history of heart problems, had internal bleeding. Doctors offered to save her baby but it required an emergency, high-risk C-section.
Charlene authorized the surgery. Despite having the best intentions, her heart wouldn't support her anymore. Elesandro described what happened:
"So the doctors come back to me in the room saying, 'Your baby's being worked on, your wife's asleep. And then (I) heard, 'Code blue.' This lady comes to our door area and says, 'We need you, doctor,' and the doctor rushes back there."
He continued:
"And then 20 minutes later, the rest of the doctors and nurses flow in the room and tell me that my wife didn't make it but my daughter's in an incubator getting her treatment."
Baby Quinn is still struggling after the ordeal. She is expected to remain at the neonatal ICU for a month. But her father says she's improving. He posted pictures on Facebook cuddling the premature infant.
Elesandro also set up a GoFundMe page. On it, Charlene is described as "a beloved mother, wife, daughter, relative, and friend."
To the couple's daughter, he said:
"You're (an) extension of your mother. You guys are women, and you guys are going to be my life. You guys are going to take that role. You guys are going to take care of me, and I know you will, and they have."
Back in July 2018, another young mother passed away just days after welcoming her third child.
32-year-old Lindsay Crosby died eight days after giving birth to her son Nolan.
Soon after she returned home, Crosby went back to the hospital where she received a Strep A diagnosis. The illness has symptoms such as septic shock, low blood pressure, and fatal organ failure.
Crosby succumbed to complications from the infection and sadly passed. She left behind her husband, Evan Crosby, her daughters Finlay, 5, and Sigrid, 3, and her newborn son.
