Man gets roasted after interrupting girlfriend's marathon to propose in viral video
A man proposed to his girlfriend while she was running a marathon. The proposal sent the internet into an uproar.
Kaitlyn Curran decided to run her first ever marathon on Sunday. She ran the New York City Marathon and her boyfriend, Dennis Galvin, came to cheer her on.
Little did she know he had bigger plans on his mind than just the marathon. As she got to the sixteen-mile mark, he beckoned her over.
Thinking she was just going to say a quick hello she ran over to the side. However, she was in for a big surprise.
Galvin jumped over the barriers and sank onto one knee in front of her. He pulled out an engagement ring and popped the question.
The screaming crowds instantly shifted their focus from the race to the couple in front of them. They cheered them on as the proposal unfolded.
The stunned Curran said "Yes" and Galvin slipped a ring onto her finger. Then she gave him a quick hug.
After the hug, Curran said she needed to finish her race and went back to her run. She completed the marathon in four hours and twenty-four minutes.
The couple then met at the finish line. They then went out with family and friends to celebrate both the engagement and Curran's marathon finish.
"People in the race were slowing down to take pictures. It was indescribable just to be there and see it all was amazing," said Galvin's cousin, Kathleen Figueroa
The crowds and fellow runners took pictures and videos. Many people who were present found the proposal very romantic.
However, the internet did not see it the same way. Many Twitter users felt the move to propose during her marathon was selfish on Galvin's part.
One user wrote, " My girlfriend is running the Marathon.....how can I make this about me?" Others believed that by stopping her he ruined her time.
Some pointed out that the amount of training and time she spent preparing for the marathon was wasted because she was interrupted and thus did not achieve the time she would have been aiming for.
In Miami, a similar story unfolded as a Miami Marathon runner crossed the finish line. She was met by her boyfriend on one knee with flowers and an engagement ring.
Rachael Avisrur's boyfriend, Ari Wolf surprised her at the finish line because she thought he was in New York. Instead, he had been waiting for her, ready to propose.
Big proposal gestures seem to be raising. One guy even proposed to his girlfriend during a helicopter rescue practice.
