Girl goes viral after video shows her rolling her eyes behind politician during TV debate
A 21-year-old student made her feelings about the political views being shared with one perfectly placed eye-roll. Her facial expression was caught on tape and has since gone viral.
The clip shows the student, Harriet Ellis, looking unimpressed. She was seated behind the former UKIP leader, Nigel Farage during a Channel 4 Brexit debate.
Ellis has been inundated with messages of support since the video went viral on Monday. Some people have even called her a "hero."
Her legendary eye roll was perfectly placed. She inserted her now-famous facial expression while Farage argued that Prime Minister Theresa May was delivering a "Remainer's Brexit."
"It's really strange to go viral. A guy came up to me after the show and asked if I'd checked my phone because apparently I was all over Twitter!" ~ Ellis to Mashable
After realizing people were sharing the clip of her eye-roll, she confirmed her identity by posting a meme of herself on Twitter. The tweet garnered a whopping 60,000 likes and 7,000 retweets.
Ellis has even received a marriage proposal as a result of the viral video. She joked with Radio 1 Newsbeat that her "boyfriend definitely isn't too happy about" the proposal.
Many people felt that Ellis, who is a student at the University of Birmingham, spoke for the masses with her small reaction. However, Harriet says she did not expect to speak for anyone but herself.
She says the reaction had been completely knee-jerk and unplanned. She simply disagreed with what Farage was saying.
When asked how she ended up standing behind Farage, Ellis explained that she had been late and rushed in. She stood next to one of her friends.
She wanted to move when she realized Farage would be in front of her but there was no time or space to do so. So she stayed where she was.
"There’s been a lot of competition this year, but this has to be the greatest eye-roll of 2018." ~Hannah Jane Parkinson tweeted about Ellis's eyeroll
Ellis says the only thing that could annoy her more is "sexism and mysogyny." They deserve what she calls a "triple eye-roll."
