Meghan McCain honors late father with a rare photo from the family archives on Veterans Day
The late Senator John McCain lost the battle to brain cancer back in August. His daughter paid a sweet tribute to him online.
The 34-year-old Meghan McCain shared a beautiful photo of her fahter as a young soldier on Twitter. She wrote in the caption:
"Today on #VeteransDay we remember and honor those who have selflessly served and sacrificed. Those who have and continue to fight to protect our freedoms -I am forever grateful."
She added that she misses her father, and thanked him for showing her what "fighting for something greater than yourself is."

Her fans rushed to the comment section to show their support, with one user saying John McCain was a hero. Another added:
"Your dad was a national treasure...and even better ..... A GOOD MAN."
A few netizens also paid tribute to the veterans in their families but sharing photos of their loved ones in the comment section. One user wrote:
"Thanks dad! Meet Vic Davidson, who made this world safer during World War II. He understood and taught me the word “respect”, something we need more of on #VeteransDay2018."
A user known only as Ariana shared a photo of her father, and explained in the caption that he fought "under terrible conditions in WWII." She added:
"Your Dad was a hero as were so many. We honor them today."
Meghan regularly shares messages in remembrance of her father. Earlier week, she wrote a beautiful post on Twitter, two months after her father passed away:
"My first Election Day of my life without you - miss you so much today Dad. Thank you for always involving me in our amazing American political process and bringing me everywhere you went."
McCain was diagnosed with a glioblastoma back in 2017 and underwent aggressive chemotherapy and radiation up to his death.
He was only given a 3 to 14 percent chance of survival. Brain cancer patients, on average, typically survive less than a year and a half after diagnosis.
He was survived by his wife, Cindy, seven children including talk-show host Meghan McCain, as well as his 106-year-old mother, Roberta McCain.
