Video of woman proposing to boyfriend on bended knee still melts hearts

A woman breaks tradition and gets down on one knee to the surprise of the man she loves. But there's a catch.

It’s been a long-standing tradition for women to wait to be proposed to. However, one woman broke tradition and decided to take matters into her own hands. In the middle of Times Square, she got down on one knee and proposed to her man. But there’s a catch, the man was already her husband.

A REVERSAL OF ROLES

A sweet couple delighted internet fans who witnessed their rare proposal on video. In the clip, the woman is seen pulling out a box with a ring and bending on one knee to the surprise of her….husband.

As most men would do after taking a knee, the woman popped the question.

“I love you, and will you continue to be my husband?”

The man’s reaction was priceless. He delighted in the role reversal and played the woman thrilled to be proposed to. With a cute shake and his hands on his mouth feigning surprise, he screams “Yes!”

He leans down to peck kisses on his wife before reaching out for the ring and putting it on. They seal the moment with a sweet hug and spectators couldn’t help but gush over the romantic scene.

THE LADIES' PRIVILEGE

In this day and age, women are becoming more empowered to initiate proposals which originated in the fifth century in what was known as “The Ladies' Privilege.” An Irish nun, St. Brigid started the tradition which eventually evolved into what is now known as the leap year tradition. On February 29, women are given the opportunity to balance gender roles by getting down on one knee. However, this also came with a downside. Women who took advantage of this opportunity were deemed desperate and masculine. Nevertheless, there are women who still take it as an empowering moment and use it to take control of their future.

FROM HOT TO MARRY TO NOT

One such woman is Mama June Shannon. Despite her boyfriend’s hesitation to marry, she proposed to him. In a preview for the second half of the season of her show, “From Hot To Not,” the mother-of-three who incredibly lost 300 pounds in a weight loss journey appeared to propose during her daughter’s wedding in Las Vegas. As she took the stage, she told her boyfriend, Geno Doak, “I want to marry you right here.” Shannon didn’t get the response she expected. Instead, Doak asked her to “slow down.” Shannon believes her boyfriend is hesitant to get married after a previous failed marriage. The couple are still together so Shannon is still hoping Doak will warm up to the idea in time.
