A baby hedgehog named Valerie was left for dead by cruel animal torturers who tightened cable ties around her neck.

When the poor animal was discovered in the park recently, she was immediately taken to Vets Now in Winchester.

The frightened vets and nurses said that Valerie wouldn't have the capacity to hibernate through the winter.

The baby hedgehog is making progress toward recuperation. She stays at the home of one of the vets and is being kept under close observation.

"I’ve been very fortunate in that I’ve not seen many intentional cruelty cases in my career," said vet nurse Amy Kneller, from Vets Now.

"However, I was horrified by what had been done to this young hedgehog," she added. "The injuries she sustained were very similar to a cat collar injury and must have been very painful."

Kneller continued, "It’s great that she’s recovering and her neck wound has completely healed but, unfortunately, it’s unlikely she’ll put on enough weight to be able to hibernate this year."

Chief executive of the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, Fay Vass, said that she was disgusted to hear about Valerie’s predicament.

“The pain and fear this poor animal must have gone through at the hands of its torturers is unimaginable. Thank goodness it is now safe and receiving the care and treatment it so needs," she explained.

Vass continued, “We ask that anyone who has any information about this attack contact the police on 101, Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018."

"Let us ensure these people have the fullest most severe punishment possible for carrying out such a cowardly attack.”

In another instance, the Animal Aid Unlimited, India saved an injured dog that was hidden inside an old storeroom.

When the rescue team got a call about a stray dog in 2016, they quickly went to the scene to investigate.

They discovered the poor animal lying in the rubble. It seemed as though the dog, who was unable to walk, had lost all hope. The team covered him with a blanket. They then carried him to the shelter.

When they checked the dog's condition, they found out that he was suffering from a spinal injury. Luckily, there were no broken bones.

The rescuers named him Alby, and they gave him the best they can. Although Alby couldn't walk properly, he was getting better.

After one month of medical treatment, physical therapy and rest, the dog began blooming with health.
