During the interview, the 59-year-old Duchess of York claimed that the couple’s failed marriage brought up unresolved feelings of abandonment. Sarah’s mother walked out on her and her father when Sarah was only 12 years old.

On how she felt, Sarah elaborated:

"The divorce was rock bottom. I had completely and utterly destroyed myself. I murdered myself. I must have brought that on for myself, hadn't I?”

The Duchess of York explained the reason as she continued:

“That's how I felt about myself, self-hatred at its height. I think that I lived in my ego for a very long time. It was seven years, 40 days a year, I saw him. It was really, really difficult."

The Dutchess of York went through a difficult period after the divorce; the press was hard on her and eating became her coping mechanism. Each time the media came out with some story she turned to food for comfort.

When Sarah reached 190 pounds in 2014, she realized that something had to be done and have shed the pounds since. She felt that her eating was her version of addiction.

"We’re divorced from each other right now, but we’ve never really left each other."
