The American show, ‘Modern Hero’ published an interview with Sarah Ferguson, her first in over seven years where she spoke about her “really difficult” marriage to Prince Andrew.
During the interview, the 59-year-old Duchess of York claimed that the couple’s failed marriage brought up unresolved feelings of abandonment. Sarah’s mother walked out on her and her father when Sarah was only 12 years old.
On how she felt, Sarah elaborated:
"The divorce was rock bottom. I had completely and utterly destroyed myself. I murdered myself. I must have brought that on for myself, hadn't I?”
The Duchess of York explained the reason as she continued:
“That's how I felt about myself, self-hatred at its height. I think that I lived in my ego for a very long time. It was seven years, 40 days a year, I saw him. It was really, really difficult."

The couple split up ten years after their marriage in 1986, and who would forget the famous kiss on the balcony of Buckingham Palace on their wedding day. The couple was very much in love and got married after a whirlwind romance that consisted of a few dates and one weekend.
To Sarah, it was love at first sight, and now after reconciling with 58-year-old Prince Andrew she is happier than ever, She also insists that marrying Prince Andrew was the best thing she has ever done and said:
"Now our life together is the greatest ever. It's so hard to comprehend because we're not normal. This is our fairy tale, and we're telling it our way."
About her and Prince Andrew’s relationship Sarah added:
"It's so hard to comprehend because we're not normal. This is our fairy tale, and we're telling it our way."
The Dutchess of York went through a difficult period after the divorce; the press was hard on her and eating became her coping mechanism. Each time the media came out with some story she turned to food for comfort.
When Sarah reached 190 pounds in 2014, she realized that something had to be done and have shed the pounds since. She felt that her eating was her version of addiction.
Meanwhile, the divorced couple lived together at the Royal Lodge at Windsor through it all. And it was in October 2016 that Sarah revealed in a social media post that she and Prince Andrew were an item once more as she said:
"We’re divorced from each other right now, but we’ve never really left each other."
