Film Director Jennifer Abbott Found Dead on Her Bed – Heartbreaking Details
The award-winning director was found dead in her London flat under chilling circumstances. Now, investigators are searching for her killer after a grim discovery inside her home raised alarming questions.
Award-winning film director Jennifer Abbott, known professionally as Sarah Steinberg, was found murdered in her Camden flat on the evening of June 13, 2025.
The 69-year-old was discovered by her niece and neighbors after they forced entry into her home, having not seen her in four days. Abbott was found wrapped in a blanket on her bed with tape across her mouth, according to neighbors.
A post-mortem conducted two days later determined the cause of death as sharp force trauma. Her diamond-encrusted Rolex was also missing, prompting authorities to investigate robbery as a motive.
Her niece allegedly mentioned that Abbott owned significant jewelry, prompting concerns that more items might have been stolen. With the local council-installed CCTV newly operational in the area, authorities were hopeful that it would provide leads.
While no arrests had been made at the time of writing, the Metropolitan Police confirmed a manhunt was underway, with Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart urging the public to come forward with any information.
"We are working closely with our colleagues in the homicide team to establish exactly what happened and it's incredibly important that we hear from anyone who may have knowledge about how this awful death occurred," Stewart said.
"Someone must have seen or heard something and no piece of information is too small. It could be the crucial clue that leads us to identify Jennifer's murderer," he added.
Abbott had reportedly grown increasingly fearful in the weeks leading up to her death. Neighbors said alleged drug users often congregated outside the entrance of her building, and Abbott had broken down in tears after a run-in with them.
A friend recalled how the director was too scared to sleep, revealing, "I remember her saying to me that once she had tried coming out of the flat and couldn't get out [...]."
"It was a dark day when that happened. It's not about me, I feel for her and her son and her niece who had to see her like that. I can't believe I'm not going to see her again," they continued.
One neighbor, Billie Currie, 63, said he had heard a dog barking for much of the night days before her body was discovered. Her pet Corgi, Prince, was later found alive but had been shut in the bathroom for three days.
"She was always walking the dog and was really nice. She was quite reserved but very friendly," Currie said.
Another neighbor recounted how her son used a metal pole to break down Abbott's door after hearing the director's niece scream for help. "I heard the girls banging on the door and heard her shouting 'Help, help,'" they said.
"She was a vibrant, spritely, and intelligent person," the neighbor added. "We would talk about a lot of things — politics, current affairs, her likes and dislikes. We knew what each other liked."
In a tragic turn, a neighbor revealed that Abbott had recently been diagnosed with stomach cancer and had undergone surgery. "I think she had an operation and it went wrong or something and they had taken out a part of her intestines," they said.
Before her death, Abbott made her mark in the film industry by directing the 2010 documentary "War of the Gods."
The documentary, also referred to as "Gods of War," explored how political leaders use religion to justify conflict. The film questioned whether such use of faith aligns with genuine spiritual values. It earned Abbott the Best Documentary award at the Swansea Bay Film Festival.
"She got interviewed in LA about this movie. She was known as Jenny or Janet and was quite mysterious," the neighbor continued. "We will miss her running around. I mean she was indoors a lot but she made herself known. She'd talk to everyone."
According to reports, Abbott, originally from Scottsdale, Arizona, studied Arts and Science at Merton Technical College and attended Pelham High School in Wimbledon. She later moved to Los Angeles and was pictured with celebrities, including Dan Aykroyd, Paris Hilton, and Kate Hudson.
As the investigation continues, police have increased patrols in the neighborhood and are appealing for witnesses to come forward with any information that might help solve the case.
