Quinton Aaron Reveals Marriage Shock During Health Battle Recovery
The beloved actor woke up from a four-day coma to find his health crisis was the least shocking thing waiting for him.
Quinton Aaron, best known for playing football player Michael Oher in the 2009 film "The Blind Side" alongside Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock, sat down with ABC News' Steve Osunsami for his first public interview since suffering a spinal stroke in January 2026.
The conversation aired on "Good Morning America" on April 21, and what Aaron revealed about his personal life may overshadow even the medical emergency that nearly killed him.

Fighting Back From the Brink
Aaron, 41, is currently recovering at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Atlanta, a joint venture between Piedmont and Encompass Health, putting in three hours of therapy every single day.
Dr. Nithin Devireddy, the facility's medical director, told "GMA" that schedule is the standard benchmark for inpatient rehabilitation.
But doctors warned the actor that regaining the ability to walk could take anywhere from several months to a full year. Aaron is not accepting that projection.
"I don't claim that time frame. I'll be walking a lot sooner than you think," he said, crediting his relationship with God as the engine behind that belief.
His health struggles long predate January. Aaron had been publicly documenting a 200-pound weight loss journey, sharing progress photos as recently as October 2025, and doctors say his diabetes directly contributed to the stroke.
His body, as he now sees it, had been sending warnings he chose to ignore.
Still, he remains positive now. On April 23, he even posted a video from his wheelchair on Instagram, announcing he had completed his first round of physical and occupational therapy. He framed it as a graduation, but it was clear that the harder work was still ahead.
And there's much to look forward to as new projects are already waiting. Aaron confirmed he has several acting jobs lined up and fully plans to return to the screen once he is back on his feet.
The Discovery His Family Made While He Was Unconscious
The stroke was terrifying enough, but what came attached to his recovery made everything more complicated.
While Aaron lay unconscious, his family began looking into his marriage to Margarita DeLeon, the woman he had wed two years prior at a wedding chapel in Los Angeles.
An attorney uncovered records showing DeLeon was still legally married to another man, in a marriage dating back to 1992. That legal reality stripped her of any authority to make medical decisions on Aaron's behalf, and doctors eventually removed her from his care entirely.
For most of their relationship, Aaron said DeLeon had assured him she had been divorced for more than a decade.
She had even claimed to have the divorce decree ready to send to their wedding officiant. When Osunsami pressed Aaron on whether he had ever confirmed this himself, his response was measured and honest:
"That's my biggest mistake, you know?"
Two Very Different Accounts
DeLeon did not stay quiet. She also spoke to "GMA" and claimed that the situation was a genuine oversight rather than intentional deception.
She said she had been completely unaware that her divorce had never been legally finalized, and pointed to ongoing tension between herself and Aaron's family as context for how the situation unfolded.
The man she remained legally married to filed for divorce in this past February and backed up her account, telling ABC News that both of them had believed for years the process was already done.
Regardless, Aaron did not deny that his feelings for her were real. When Osunsami said, "You did love her," without hesitation, the actor replied, "Yes, I did."
However, he also said the experience has permanently changed how he approaches relationships. "If I had a chance to do it over, I would have done my due diligence," he told Osunsami. "I would've definitely done a lot more research."
When asked what he would tell his younger self after everything this year has brought, Aaron kept it simple:
"Learn to pay attention to a lot, a lot of stuff."
This includes his body, his relationships, and his faith. All of it, he said, was finally speaking to him clearly now.
The actor had previously shared some of his recovery process back in March, when he confirmed a major medical breakthrough during an update shared with TMZ, signaling that his recovery is gaining serious momentum.
Doctors had officially removed his tracheal tube. With it gone, Aaron said life was slowly returning to normal. He was able to talk again, sip his favorite juices, and even start practicing his singing, small but meaningful victories that signal progress after a frightening ordeal.
Throughout it all, Quinton had been repeating a personal mantra that reflects his mindset moving forward: "Stronger and better than ever."
How His Faith and Support System Helped
Surviving such a serious medical emergency has profoundly changed Aaron's perspective.
The actor said the experience felt like being given a brand-new lease on life, something he credits to his faith and the support of loved ones. Family members and close friends rallied around him during the darkest moments of his hospitalization.
Their support, Aaron said, helped him stay focused on his recovery and rethink certain relationships.

Why He's Reconsidering His Personal Life
Alongside the health update, Aaron also addressed the messy "spiritual wedding" situation that previously surrounded his relationship.
The actor made it clear that the experience has pushed him to reevaluate things after being off life support for a while. He was looking forward to being a single man and focusing on his goals without the added stress.
It's a candid admission from Aaron, who said the health scare forced him to prioritize peace, clarity, and the people who truly support him. In fact, he revealed that during recovery, he's been able to cut ties with individuals who no longer serve a positive role in his life.

Where His Recovery Journey Goes Next
Even as he celebrated this milestone, Aaron's journey is far from over. The actor continues working through rehabilitation and long-term recovery, while also navigating the financial challenges that often come with serious medical treatment.
He confirmed that he's currently raising money through his official GoFundMe to help cover ongoing medical costs. Right now, the fundraiser is aiming for $14K, which the actor said will help support his continued recovery and treatment.
An outside organization also creates a separate fundraising page, and Aaron said he was working through the beneficiary details for that campaign as well.

Despite everything he has faced this year, he sounds determined to keep pushing forward. Aaron said the ordeal reshaped his priorities and strengthened his resolve to rebuild his life, both personally and professionally.
For now, his focus is simple: healing, growing, and protecting his peace. And if his mantra is any indication, Quinton Aaron believes the hardest part is already behind him.
