Aaron Trejo's family is defending him against harsh words from internet users after he was accused of murdering a pregnant girl.

The 16-year-old teenager is charged with killing his schoolmate Breana Rouhselang in a horrific stabbing that took place near Rulli's restaurant in Indiana.

Trejo allegedly killed Rouhselang, 17, because she had taken too long to tell him that she was pregnant with his child. At six months, it was too late to have an abortion.

The two attended the same schools since elementary. Before her death, Rouhselang was a cheerleader, a softball coach, and a football team manager at the Mishawaka High school.

Trejo was a member of that football team but its unclear as to what their relationship was.

Trejo's aunt, Alexzaundra Patton-Manu, spoke to the Daily Beast about her nephew.

She said:

"This is not him. This is not his character. Everybody's still in shock."

The California woman is the only one in the family to speak out since the murder on Saturday night.

Regarding the other family members, Patton-Manu revealed:

"They had no clue. Nobody had a clue what's going on with him."

Trejo considered killing Rouhselang a week before he carried out the act. According to police, on Saturday he stabbed her several times while using her scarf to strangle her.

He then put her body in a plastic bag and threw it into a dumpster which the police called a "location of opportunity to hide the victim."

Trejo threw away Rouhselang's phone as well as the knife he had used into a river. Around 4:30 a.m. the next morning, the young girl's family called the police once they "got the feeling that something wasn't right."

They found the body in the dumpster just a block away from her home. The family later set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs.

In an interview with police, Trejo admitted to police that "neither he nor Breana wanted to have the baby."

When asked what he did about it, he said:

"I took action... I took her life."

Trejo will be charged as an adult as he faces counts of murder and feticide. On Monday, he pleaded not guilty to the charges and was placed in jail without bond.

Meanwhile, Rouhselang's family is calling for justice to be served. Her father and stepmother were both unaware Trejo had been in their daughter's life.

Her birth mother reportedly knew about him, however. But both families are in "shock" and "disbelief." Their kind, sweet girl is now gone at the hands of a heartless killer.
