Father of Three, Guy McFadden-Newman, Passes Away Just 5 Months After His Wife's Death
What began as a quiet family's heartbreak has become a tragedy shared by an entire community. Guy McFadden-Newman died just months after his wife Kerry, leaving their three children without either parent.
Three children in Northern Ireland are facing unimaginable loss after losing both parents just five months apart — first their mother, an Army nurse, and now their father, a beloved coach and veteran.
Guy, a respected Royal Army Medical Service warrant officer and long-time youth football coach, died on July 30 in a hospital surrounded by his children and extended family. His death followed a brief illness.
His wife, Lieutenant Colonel Kerry McFadden-Newman, passed away on February 24, 2025. The couple leave behind three children: Caoimhe, 19, who is preparing to start university; Fionn, 15, who recently completed his GCSEs; and Teagan, 9.
Guy coached Portrush FC Youths for nearly a decade. The club shared a heartfelt tribute following the announcement of his death. "Portrush FC Youths are absolutely devastated, shocked and heartbroken to hear the tragic news of the passing of ex-coach and friend to many, Guy McFadden-Newman," the statement read.
The tribute described Guy as a "well-respected and dedicated coach" who volunteered with his son, Fionn, and later with his daughter, Teagan, both of whom played for the club. "Guy was a real gentleman and a good friend to many," the club added. "He was always first to step up and offer assistance… nothing was too much bother."
The club acknowledged the deep grief Guy and his children had faced following Kerry's death earlier in the year, noting it was hard to comprehend that only months had passed since they lost someone so central to their lives.
In their message, the club offered heartfelt condolences to the children, recognizing the tragedy of them losing both parents in such a short time. They concluded by expressing the hope that Guy and Kerry were now reunited, resting together in peace.
Tributes have continued to pour in for Guy, following his sudden death. Among those paying their respects was Portrush Theatre Company, which described their shock at losing both Guy and his wife, Kerry, just months apart.
"We are shocked and saddened at the loss of our friend, Guy McFadden-Newman," the group shared in a statement posted to Facebook. They expressed sympathy to his children and the extended family, noting that Guy had been a steady presence in their community over the years.
The theatre company recalled Guy's behind-the-scenes involvement in their productions, often at Kerry’s urging. "He was usually being volunteered by Kerry for a role or two backstage," they said, adding that although Guy might have claimed he was roped in, "he did it all with a smile on his face and we loved having him involved."
Meanwhile, Ivan Murdock & Son Funeral Directors released the official obituary for Guy. The 57-year-old was remembered as a beloved husband to his late wife and a devoted father to his children.
Besides his children, he is also survived by his parents, Keith and Gina; brothers, Terry and Dean; and extended family, including brothers and sisters-in-law, and his parents-in-law, Margaret and Alan.
A service celebrating his life will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Portrush on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. A private cremation will follow at a later date. The family has requested privacy at this time.
Guy's passing comes just five months after the death of his wife Kerry, who passed away peacefully in February following a sudden illness.
Kerry was a highly respected army nurse who served most of her life in the military. It was through her work that she met Guy, an Operating Theatre Technician. The two crossed paths in 2001 while both were serving, forming a partnership that would later grow into a family and a shared commitment to community life in Portrush.
An obituary released described Kerry as a "dearly loved wife of Guy" and "loving mother." She was also remembered as the "darling daughter of Alan (Fadge) and Maggie" and a devoted sister to Noni.
A service celebrating her life was held on March 3, 2025, at Holy Trinity Church in Portrush. At the time, the family had requested bright and cheerful attire, reflecting Kerry's vibrant personality.
Kerry was deeply loved and widely respected. Her death marked the beginning of a period of profound grief for her husband and children — one that would tragically deepen just months later.
