December is a special time of the year for many people. For country music singer and songwriter, Alan Eugene Jackson and his wife Denise, the month holds even more weight.

The couple has not one, but two anniversaries to celebrate in December. The first is the anniversary of their engagement on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1978. Then their marriage, which came almost a full year later, on December 15, 1979.

To mark their 39th wedding anniversary, Alan posted a picture of himself and his wife on Instagram on the 15th of December. As expected, it had all the signs of being very old – grainy and slightly blurry.

The post bore the caption:

‘These youngsters were newly engaged on Christmas Eve 1978. Today we’re celebrating 39 years together.... still livin’ on love!’

After 39 years of marriage, the couple has experienced their share of bumps. They even once separated in 1998 due to infidelity – on Alan’s part – and the pressures that his superstar, country music career brought.

With three daughters together who are all grown up now, Mattie Jackson Selecman, Alexandra Jackson and Dani Jackson, their marriage has remained rock solid ever since.

Recently, the family suffered a tragedy, in the form of the death of Mattie Jackson Selecman’s husband, Samuel Selecman, in September. He was 28 years old at the time.

Regardless of their trials, the Jackson family believes they have cause to be grateful and to celebrate. In the spirit of the yuletide season, Alan and Denise shared glad tidings with family, friends, and fans.

Through Alan’s verified Instagram account, the couple shared a photo captioned with a warm message which read:

"Merry Christmas from our house to yours. And special thanks to our friends at @balsamhill for sending us this beautiful 15’ Christmas Tree! We look forward to making many family memories around our new tree. Wishing all of you a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!"

In just about a month, Alan will be going on tour starting from Louisville in Kentucky, then to Jacksonville, Omaha, Charleston, Oklahoma City, Orlando, and Charlotte, amongst others. He will be joined by William Michael Morgan and Randy Houser.
