'Dead, dead, dead': Ann Coulter's warning to Donald Trump if he doesn’t build the wall
Ann Coulter is a conservative influencer who has been behind President Donald Trump from the time he ran for president until now. On Tuesday, an episode of “Vice News Tonight” featuring Coulter aired.
There she spoke about the controversy relating to the ongoing partial government shutdown and the border wall funding. On the show, she insisted that Trump would eventually win over the Democrats to get his wall.
Ann Coulter is one of the people who keep putting pressure on President Donald Trump to ensure that he doesn’t relent on getting funding for the border wall between the US and Mexico. In the past, she was a staunch supporter of the president, but lately, she’s more critical of him.
The US is currently facing a partial federal government shutdown because Trump refuses to sign off on the national funding without getting $5, 7 billion for the border wall.
However, Democrats have also dug in their heels and refuse to approve the spending. This has resulted in federal employees being furloughed and going without pay.
Coulter revealed during her interview that she didn’t care about the employees who weren’t paid as long as immigration remains the main topic for Trump. She stated, “Oh, gosh, they’ll have to wait a few months before they know fully well they’re going to be paid in full.”
The conservative influencer also said that previous shutdowns were more difficult than the current one. She added her biggest concerns saying:
“More Americans die from drug overdose every year than died in the entire course of the Vietnam War, and the vast majority of those drugs are being brought in because we have a wide-open border. I care more about that than I care about the Yosemite gift shop being open.”
However, The Washington Post’s Fact Checker refuted this by revealing that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said most illicit drugs entered through legal ports of entry instead of illegal ones. Coulter insisted that the president needed to uphold his election promise to build the border wall no matter what.
She stated, “He is dead in the water if he doesn’t build that wall. Dead, dead, dead.” Coulter further placed the blame for the shutdown on Democrats saying they were “obsessing” over the wall because they wanted Trump to break his promise.
In December, Coulter and other conservatives were blamed for playing a role in causing the shutdown. At one point, Trump appeared to be conceding on the wall until conservatives put pressure on him.
The president hasn’t responded publicly to Coulter but he did unfollow her on Twitter. In her “Vice” interview, Coulter shared that Trump had “screwed up for two years” by not building the wall.
On Wednesday, Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) gave her first House floor speech for around three minutes. In it, she rebuked Trump over the ongoing shutdown.
She stated that his demand wasn’t about the president’s demands for a border wall, but “the erosion of American democracy.”
