A dozen undocumented immigrants who came to the United States years ago got fired from President Trump’s golf club earlier this month and decided to speak out.

The workers got told that Trump’s company recently audited their immigration documents, which turned out to be fake.

One by one the workers got called into the manager’s office at the Trump National Golf Club in Westchester County on January 18, 2019, and were fired.

Many of these workers had been working for President Trump’s golf clubs for many years. According to the fired immigrants' lawyer, Anibal Romero, the manager knew the immigrants had submitted fake documentation, and looked the other way, and added:

"This is bogus. People have been there for 12, 13, 14 years. One had the keys to Eric Trump's bedroom."

The sudden firing spree came after workers at one of Trump’s golf clubs in New Jersey said that managers hired them knowing that they were in the country illegally. Some workers claimed that a manager even helped one of them obtain false documents.

According to Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, who now runs the Trump Organization, they seek to fire anyone who has falsified paperwork, with Eric stating:

“We are making a broad effort to identify any employee who has given false and fraudulent documents to unlawfully gain employment. Where identified, any individual will be terminated immediately.”

According to Anibal Romero, the Trump Organisation showed “a pattern and practice of hiring undocumented immigrants, not only in New Jersey but also in New York.” Romero also demanded a thorough investigation from the federal authorities.

In the meantime, a former manager at the New York golf club said that the Trump Organization valued cheap labor over legal status and said:

“It didn’t matter. They didn’t care [about immigration status]. It was, ‘Get the cheapest labor possible.’”

Many on social media agreed with the former manager, as one follower tweeted:

One of the fired workers, Gabriel Sedano, a former maintenance worker at the golf club in New York said:

“I started to cry. I told them they needed to consider us. I had worked almost 15 years for them in this club, and I’d given the best of myself to this job.”

From Gabriel’s perspective, the only thing he did wrong was “work, work, and work.” Sedano met with fellow workers in the golf club’s laundry room after he got fired. After he told them what happened, they got scared, while some started crying.

Sedano and his family illegally crossed the border from Mexico into the United States in 2003 and started working at Trump’s golf course two years later.

According to Sedano, the club was in desperate need of employees and didn’t properly check the fraudulent green cards they provided on purpose. Cheap labor came before a properly vetted immigrant with legal documentation.

Shortly after the hardworking illegal immigrants got fired, President Trump took to Twitter to thank government workers who had been working without pay:

The tweet sparked outrage from the nation as many called upon the president to open the government up, which has been the longest in American history, as one follower pleaded:

The situation had reached a point where people’s priority is to survive and are desperate for the government to re-open as the repercussions of the shutdown reach further and further every day.
