Police state 'nothing extraordinary' happened before teen, found dead on Sunday, went missing

Corey Brown's body was found at 10:45 a.m. on Sunday less than 1.5 miles from his home after five days of searching.

Brown, 13, left his Iowa home last Tuesday evening after a "disciplinary discussion" with his parents. They chose to take away his phone, leaving Brown upset.

The family lives on Marshalltown's south side. According to Marshalltown police chief Michael Tupper, Brown's body was found outdoors in the west side of the city in a secluded area.

No criminal activity was determined as of yet, however, all possibilities are being considered. An autopsy will be conducted in the coming days.

Regarding speculation that there was a serious fight between Brown and his parents, Tupper discouraged the rumors.

He said:

"I can't emphasize enough that this speculation about why he left ... it's not a fair depiction. Nothing extraordinary happened at home that caused this to occur."

He noted that the temperature dropped below zero for the three days immediately following Brown's disappearance on Tuesday.

In those days, over 1,000 fliers with Brown's face printed on them were put up throughout the town. Minuteman Inc. printed the fliers.

Bizios, the manager said:

"None of us can really imagine what (the family is) going through."

He hinted that the family would receive support from the community but wasn't aware of any specifics. Brown's relatives requested privacy at this time.

The town's mayor, Joel Greer, released a public statement:

"Our hearts bleed for the Brown family. The whole city and all well-wishers will keep them in our thoughts and continue our prayers for them."

The school district also wrote a message of condolences:

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to the Brown family and those close to Corey. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed."

School counselors are prepared to work with any students who need help as a result of Brown's passing.

Many were involved in his search party last week and a $1,000 reward was offered for information. Brown's body was found in the same clothes he had left home that Tuesday night.

Casey Hathaway, three, was another missing child found last Thursday. He had been missing for two days. Casey disappeared when he went outside and didn't return to his grandmother's home.

Craven County Sheriff Chip Hughes said he was alive and in good health when found near Ernul, North Carolina. We wish the same would have happened for Brown and extend our deepest sympathies.
