Kristoff St. John tweeted about his son's suicide 2 weeks before the actor was found dead
Four years after his son’s suicide, Kristoff St. John was discovered lifeless in his home. His last tweet before his death spoke of his grief over the tragic loss.
Kristoff St. John’s final tweet two weeks before his death appeared to signal his eventual passing.
On January 21, the 52-year-old actor retweeted a message that read,
“Grieving the loss of a child is a process. It begins on the day your child passes, and ends the day the parent joins them.”
In reply to the tweet, he wrote,
“Never a truer word was spoke. Thanks for posting this.”
HIS DEPRESSION AFTER HIS SON'S SUICIDE
It’s no secret that the “Young and the Restless” actor had been battling depression since his son, Julian St. John committed suicide in 2014. In 2017, he was placed on a 72-hour suicide watch after he attempted to kill himself with a gun.
At the time, his ex-wife and Julian’s mother, Mia St. John defended him to media outlets when she blasted inaccurate reports about what actually happened.
“I want the world to know the truth about what is happening with Kristoff, because currently there is inaccurate, and fabricated information being reported by certain online outlets. No parent should ever have to bury their child, and for those who do, it is a nightmare that haunts you forever. The death of our beloved son Julian has taken a toll on both of us. He is an actor and while he may appear whole on the outside, his heart is broken. As a society, we need to start taking mental health seriously and realize that no one is immune.”
ON GRIEF AND ITS INFLUENCE ON DEPRESSION
Grief is a powerful trigger of depression. According to an article by Dr. Joseph Nowinski on Psychology Today, depression "is influenced, among other things, by the strength of our attachment to the lost loved one and how central he or she was to our lives." The article added that it is a process that "never really ends" and can "emerge on birthdays and anniversaries." In the case of St. John, he was driven to attempt suicide around the time of his son's 3rd year death anniversary.
ST. JOHN'S UNTIMELY DEATH
At around 2:05 pm on Sunday, St. John was discovered by his friend dead in his home in Woodland Hills. An official of the LAPD revealed that he possibly died of an alcohol overdose. An autopsy was completed on Monday but the results were deferred pending further investigation and additional laboratory tests.
Just last week, St. John was being treated for depression and was only released from the hospital days prior to his death. This prompted Mia to blame the institution for his death, much like she and the late actor did following their son's death. In an emotional tweet on Monday (which she already deleted), she wrote,
“That hospital killed our son then my husband thats what happened! They killed my family.”
St. John is survived by his two children, Paris and Lola. Paris is Mia’s daughter while Lola is the actor’s daughter with his other ex-wife Allana Nadal.
He was also engaged to Russian model Kseniya Mikhaleva. They were planning to be married in the fall.
