Sen. Bernie Sanders slams Donald Trump's SOTU address as 'racist'

Still of the firm belief that President Trump is “racist,” Senator Bernie Sanders responded to the SOTU address with indignation.

Following the official Democratic response speech by the Georgia politician, Stacey Abrams, Bernie Sanders launched into his almost half an hour long thoughts on the president’s address.

During the live stream that started around 11 pm on Tuesday night, Sanders pulled apart Trump’s claims at a growing economy, for starters. While Saunders agreed with the premise of the economy doing well, he noted that it only benefits the wealthy and said:

"We have more wealth and income inequality than any major country on earth."

The roughly 80% of Americans living “paycheck to paycheck” still awaits the arrival of the “booming economy.” If the Vermont Senator aimed at building his platform for a future campaign, he was doing a good job. In a recent tweet, Sanders reiterated his point:

He slammed President Trump for not making any suggestions about the rise of the minimum wage to a living wage. And called the lack of universal healthcare embarrassing.

Pushing his point across, Sanders added:

"People are not truly free when they cannot afford to buy the prescription drugs they desperately need. People are not truly free when they are unable to retire with dignity. People are certainly not truly free when they cannot afford to feed their families."

The next point of focus for Sanders was President Trump’s claim that “Year after year, countless Americans are murdered by criminal illegal aliens.”

According to Senator Sanders, undocumented immigrants commit fewer crimes than American citizens. Sanders referred to Trump’s “demonization of Latinos nothing less than racist.”

After Trump brought out the grieving family of a couple that got killed by an undocumented person in Reno, Sanders quickly pointed out that a white American citizen, pulled off one of the deadliest mass shootings in the country’s history in Reno, less than two years ago.

However, Senator Sanders accusing President Trump of being a racist is not news, during a speech he delivered on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, he minced no words. At the town hall event in South Carolina, Sanders told the audience:

“Today we talk about justice, and today we talk about racism. And I must tell you; it gives me no pleasure to tell you that we now have a president of the United States who is a racist.”

As cheers from the audience subsided, Sanders continued:

“What a president is supposed to do is to bring us together, and we have a president intentionally, purposely, is trying to divide us up by the color of our skin, by our gender, by the country we came from, by our religion.”

Senator Sanders feels strongly about his stance on wages and the surrounding issues, actively working in changing current systems. In November 2018, Senator Sanders introduced new legislation, named “The Stop WALMART Act,” or unabbreviated, “The Stop Welfare for Any Large Monopoly Amassing Revenue from Taxpayers Act.”

The new bill prevents large companies from buying back stock in the event they pay any workers less than $15. The act also allows workers to get up to 7 days paid sick leave, and as the name suggests, it was aimed at Walmart.
