Fans ‘definitely’ heard Lady Gaga’s shout out to Trump during her powerful Grammy performance
Following her performance at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Lady Gaga got fans buzzing, and not just for one reason, but two.
During the evening, Lady Gaga performed the hit song from her movie, ”A Star is Born, and while fans expected a more emotional rendition of the song “Shallow,” the star rendered just the opposite.
After Lady Gaga’s performance, fans commented on a shout-out the singer made midway through the song and shouted “Hey Trump!” before she continued singing without missing a beat.
The “A Star is born” singer often makes references to Donald Trump. This time she didn’t stop completely to give a full-on anti-Trump speech as she did during her Las Vegas show.
While Gaga performed “Million Reasons,” she stopped to give Donald Trump a message amid the then ongoing and longest partial government shutdown in American history and said:
"If the ***** president of the United States could please put our government back... there are people who live paycheck to paycheck and need their money."
The government got re-opened in the meantime, but she couldn’t resist working in at least one reference during the Grammy’s this year. Fans quickly responded to the brief shout-out as one fan posted:
Fans also commented on Lady Gaga’s actual spidery rendition of the song, as they felt it over the top, with her energy not in line with the feel of the song, as another fan noted:
Other fans enjoyed Lady Gaga's energetic rendition of the song and expressed their approval of her performance, as one Twitter user wrote:
The iconic singer arrived on the red carpet and looked fabulous in a silver high-slit dress and matching heels. Apart from Lady Gaga’s performance she also received five Grammy nominations and included Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
Her nomination for Best Song Written for Visual Media was Gaga’s fifth nomination which she snagged during the pre-show. It was notable that Bradley Cooper did not perform “Shallow” with Lady Gaga on the awards evening.
A week before the ceremony, the Academy of Motion Pictures and Art and Sciences announced that Bradley Cooper would perform the song with Gaga, but shortly after the announcement, Bradley had an interview with E! News, and said, “I'm sure I'll be terrified.”
It would not have been the pair’s first performance of the song together. During Gaga’s concert in Las Vegas, Bradley and Gaga gave a touching rendition to the song which delighted fans.
